Bison Softball Downed by Wisconsin-Green Bay, 10-9, in Extra Innings

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Bucknell softball team was defeated by Wisconsin-Green Bay, 10-9, after an Anna Bluemel RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inningon Thursday. The Bison were led by Sherry Finkel (Morgantown, W.Va./University), who posted a 4-for-5 showing with two runs batted in. Bucknell fell to 5-13 on the season, while the Phoenix improved to 6-7.
The Orange and Blue tallied three runs in the first inning. Finkel knocked an RBI single up the middle that scored Ashley Carlson (Fairless Hills, Pa./Pennsbury). With the bases loaded, Lauren Litts (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg) forced a walk that brought home Mary Pavlovich (Johnstown, Pa./Richland), while Monica Grinage (Rankin, Pa./Shady Side Academy) scored off an Erin Curatola (River Egde, N.J./River Dell) fly out to left field.
Wisconsin-Green Bay answered back with two runs in the bottom of the first and one in the second to tie the game up at 3-3. The Phoenix took a 7-3 lead after a two-run home run by Jenny Rehfeldt in the third inning and a triple down the right-field line by Melani Meiderer in the fourth.
In the fifth inning, Cassie Lloyd (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg Area) drove in Litts when she grounded out to third base to make the score 7-4. With Wisconsin-Green Bay up 8-4 in the top of the sixth inning, the Bison drove in three runs after RBI from Pavlovich, Grinage and Finkel. In the seventh, Lauren Trosch (Reistertown, Md./McDonough) scored of a wild pitch to send the game into extra innings. An RBI single by Litts in the eighth scored Pavlovich, but it wasn't enough to hold off the Phoenix as they collected a run off a fielding error by Bucknell before the game-winning hit by Bluemel.
Christie Wiest (Centre Hall, Pa./Penns Valley) was charged with the loss as she fell to 2-8 on the season. She surrendered two hits and one run in relief in the eighth. Pavlovich finished 3-for-4, with three runs and one run batted in. Litts tallied three RBI's, while Carlson went 2-for-4 with two runs.
For Wisconsin-Green Bay, Andrea Kurzynske paced the Phoenix, going 3-for-4 with one run scored.
Due to inclement weather, the game against Saint Louis has been postponed with the Billikens leading, 3-2.
