Bucknell Men's Tennis Overpowers Connecticut 5-2

STORRS, Conn. - The Bucknell men's tennis squad won its second-straight match Friday night by defeating Connecticut, 5-2, in Storrs, Conn. Highlighting the victory for the Bison was junior Ira Reibeisen (Armonk, N.Y./Rye Country Day-Upper) and freshman Zach Hascoe (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick) both improving to 3-0 in singles play this season.
The Orange and Blue scored the first point of the competition after collecting two of three doubles matches behind the team of Hascoe and sophomore Daniel Bednarek (Haworth, N.J./Bergen Catholic), who took down Thomas Cook and Nate Carvalho, 8-5, in the No. 3 spot, while the pair of sophomores Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif./Canyon) and Jonathan Brenner (Manhasset, N.Y./Chaminade) beat Christian Malerba and Joey Michaels, 8-6, in the No. 2 spot.
Reisbeisen held of Ben Schueler in three sets in the No. 1 spot, 6-0, 2-6, 7-5, to pick up the second point for Bucknell. Sandburg notched a victory over Michaels, 6-2, 6-3, in the No. 2 slot. Hascoe earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Malerba in the No. 4 spot. After being down a set, Bednarek fought back to win in three sets against Carvalho, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1, in the No. 5 spot.
The Bucknell men's tennis team will battle Quinnipiac on Saturday, Feb. 10, at 1 p.m. in Hamden, Conn.
