LEWISBURG, Pa - On Tuesday, the Patriot League announced that seniors Tyler Hoffman (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg), Melanie Buczko (Butler, Pa./Butler Area), Christa Sawko (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) and freshman Jason Inzana (Birdsboro, Pa./Daniel Boone) received weekly accolades for their strong performances this past weekend in the Bucknell Winter Classic and Sykes-Sabok Challenge Cup.
Hoffman won his fourth-straight Male Field Performer of the Week after winning the 35-lb weight throw with a toss of 65 feet, 2 inches (19.86m), which broke his own school record and was an NCAA provisional and IC4A Championship mark. The senior holds the best distance in the conference and the 15th-ranked toss in the NCAA.
Buczko was named the Female Field Performer of the Week. She placed first in the pole vault at the Bucknell Winter Classic with a height of 13-4 ¼ (4.07m), which was an NCAA provisional and ECAC qualifying mark and a new facility record. Her height is first in the league and 12th in the NCAA. Buzcko also placed third at the Sykes-Sabok Challenge Cup in the pole vault.
Sawko, who was named Female Track Performer of the Week for the third time this season, bettered her season-best mark in the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 10.42 seconds, which was good for third place at the Sykes-Sabok Challenge Cup. Her time was an ECAC qualifying mark and ranks her first in the Patriot League.
Inzana became the third Bison to win Male Rookie of the Week after notching a second-place showing in the pole vault, clearing a height of 14-9 (4.50m), which was also a personal best and is the fifth-best mark in the league.
The Bucknell men's and women's track and field teams will participate in the Patriot League Championships this weekend at Army. The three-day event runs from Friday to Sunday.
