LEWISBURG, Pa. - Once again, the Bucknell men's soccer team was well represented on the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic All-Region Team as multiple Bison were recognized for the sixth consecutive season. Senior Joey Kuterbach (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood) and sophomore Conor O'Brien (Mt. Sinai, N.Y./St. Anthony's) earned second-team recognition, while seniors Corey Curnutte (Waterford, Mich./Detroit Country Day) and Joe Mellott (Highland, Md./Mount St. Joseph) landed on the third team.
Bucknell's four selections led the Patriot League schools in the region, with only Colgate (3) also earning more than two.
Kuterbach, the 2007 Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year and a First Team All-Patriot League choice, ended his career as one of the best goalies in Bison history. The two-year team captain finished his senior campaign with 77 saves, a career-best 0.76 goals-against average and a career-best .837 save percentage. Additionally, he equaled his career high with eight shutouts, which tied him for the Patriot League lead.
In addition to listing at the top of the Patriot League in shutouts, Kuterbach was among the league leaders in goals-against average (2nd), save percentage (2nd) and saves (t-2nd).
A third-team all-region selection last year, Kuterbach wrapped up his career with 18 shutouts to rank tied for fourth on the Bucknell career list. He also piled up 238 saves in his four years as a Bison, good for seventh in program history.
O'Brien, who was a Second Team All-Patriot League selection in 2007, led the team with seven goals and 19 points, while his five assists were tied for first on the squad with Justin Wolf. O'Brien's goal total was the most by a Bison since Scott Visnic netted 12 in 2003. The sophomore tallied five goals over the final six games of the regular season, and he assisted on Mark Schmiegel's goal in the Patriot League Tournament semifinals against Colgate.
A starter in all 42 games of his career, O'Brien was among the Patriot League leaders in virtually every offensive category. He ranked tied for first in assists, second in points and points per game, tied for second in goals, third in shots and shots per game, tied for fourth in assists per game and fifth in goals per game.
Curnutte, a two-time All-Patriot League choice, registered career highs in goals (4) and points (10) this past year. A starter in at least 18 games every year of his career, including all 19 this past season, Curnutte served as a team co-captain for two years. Bucknell posted a 4-1-1 record in games he scored in this past year.
A four-year starter, Mellott continued the long tradition of solid Bison defenders. A First Team All-Patriot League selection, Mellott recorded 10 assists in his career, including one this past season against La Salle. He was the backbone of a defense that limited opponents to just 16 goals, with only six coming in regular-season Patriot League play. The Highland, Md., native appeared in 74 career games with 68 career starts.
Bucknell posted a solid 9-5-5 record in 2007, including 4-2-1 in Patriot League play. The Bison earned the third seed in the Patriot League Tournament, but lost to Colgate on penalty kicks in the semifinals.
