LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior Kelly Hoffman (Boyertown, Pa./Oley Valley) was tabbed as the 2007 Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for field hockey, the league announced on Tuesday. Hoffman is the fifth student-athlete in Bucknell field hockey history to win the award, joining Tricia Way (1992), Carolyn Zesk (1995), Jen Zimmerman (1999) and Lauren Campbell (2001).
To be eligible for the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average and must also be a key contributor in his/her sport.
A double major in English and psychology, Hoffman holds a 3.94 cumulative GPA and was named to both the NFCHA All-Academic squad and the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in 2005, 2006 and 2007. Hoffman is also an active member of Bucknell's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, participating in activities such as traveling to a local elementary school earlier this year to teach children about sports.
This season, Hoffman earned a second-team all-league selection for the second time in her career. As a co-captain, she started in all 16 games for the Bison. She tallied 17 points with seven goals and three assists. Two of Hoffman's goals were game-winners, against Kent State (W, 3-2, OT) on Aug. 25, and against Georgetown (W, 3-2, OT) on Sept. 22. She also had the assist for the game-winning goal against Towson (W, 4-3) on Sept. 4.

The Bucknell field hockey team closed out the 2007 season on Oct. 27, with a 3-2 league win over Lafayette for Senior Day. The Bison finished with an 8-9 overall record and 1-4 record in the Patriot League.
