LEWISBURG, Pa. - Two members of the Bucknell women's soccer team were honored with weekly awards on Monday after helping the Bison to a 1-0-1 week with a 4-1 victory over Princeton and a 1-1 draw against American that wrapped up the squad's second straight Patriot League regular season title. Junior Jennifer Dervarics (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) was named the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week, while freshman Kelsey Johnson (Monroe, Conn./Masuk) was tabbed the Patriot League BRINE Rookie of the Week.
Dervarics, who picked up her third Bison Athlete of the Week honor of the season, totaled five points on two goals and one assist over Bucknell's two matches last week. She scored twice in the midweek win over the Tigers as the Orange and Blue defeated Princeton for the first time in program history. Prior to the match against the Bison, the Tigers had won 18 of their last 19 games against Patriot League schools in a streak that dated back to 1997.
On Saturday at American, Dervarics assisted on Bucknell's lone tally in the 1-1 tie, which clinched the Patriot League regular season crown and gave the Bison the right to host the league tournament as the No. 1 seed. The five-point week improved Dervarics' rankings in the Bucknell record book as she is now tied for seventh in single season points (28), tied seventh in single season goals (11) and tied for ninth in single season assists (6). On the program's career lists, Dervarics is now fifth in points (59), seventh in goals (23) and seventh in assists (13).
Freshman Kelsey Johnson was named PL Rookie of the Week on Monday. |
The Bison will be playing host to the Patriot League Tournament on Varsity Soccer Field this Friday and Sunday, Nov. 9 and 11, and will take on the No. 4-seed, Army, on Friday evening at 7 p.m.
