Bucknell Men's Swimming and Diving Places Second at Trials/Finals Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's swimming and diving squad captured one individual win and one relay victory, wrapping up the two-day Bucknell Trials/Finals Invitational on Sunday. The Bison placed second out of the four squads who competed in the weekend's action. With 857.5 points, Bucknell finished ahead of Binghamton (763 points) and TCNJ (543.5 points), but behind Towson (1,294).
Sophomore Luke Trafton (Bath, Maine/Morse) recorded his second win of the weekend, taking first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of four minutes, 42.16 seconds. Sophomores Ben Leboza (Green Oaks, Ill./Libertyville) and David Iselin (Potomac, Md./Churchill) qualified for the "A" final in that event, as well, finishing fifth (4:48.50) and eighth (4:52.10), respectively.
Junior Mark Kawczenski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Hanover Area), senior Bradford Bennett (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area), senior Grant Steadman (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) and senior John Peterman (Conestoga, Pa./Penn Manor) combined for the winning time in the 200 medley relay, finishing in 1:35.10.
In the 400 free relay, Peterman, Kawczenski, sophomore Daniel Fletcher (Cedar Grove, N.J./Cedar Grove) and Steadman, posted a runner-up finish for the Bison with a time of 3:11.43.
Bennett recorded an individual second-place showing in the 200 breast with a time of 2:08.66, while senior Joseph Metcalf (Knoxville, Tenn./Phillips Exeter Academy (N.H.)) joined him in the "A" final, taking fifth in 2:14.61.
Peterman headed up a group of three Bison who qualified for the "A" final in the 100 free as he placed third with a time of 47.78. Following him were Fletcher in sixth (48.81) and Steadman in seventh (48.86), while Leboza won the "B" final with a time of 48.71.
In the 200 back, Iselin collected a third-place finish with a time of 1:56.34 and freshman Gonzalo DeLeon (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) came in right behind him in fourth with a time of 1:57.18.
Three Bison placed in the top-eight in the 400 IM. Senior Theo Leriotis (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional Senior High) took fourth in 4:17.65, DeLeon was seventh with a time of 4:20.99 and Trafton placed eighth in 4:32.38.
Rounding out Bucknell's "A" finalists in the swimming events were freshman Michael Volpe (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) and Bennett in the 100 fly, placing fourth and eighth with times of 53.16 and 54.22, respectively.
In three-meter diving, junior Jeffrey Manning (Bringhurst, Ind./Carroll Jr./Sr. High) posted a score of 247.20 to tie for second in the event.
