Bucknell Women's Swimming and Diving Sits Third at Trials/Finals Invitational After Day One

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Sophomore Rebecca Bersani (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) set a new school record in one-meter diving, six optionals, helping the Bucknell swimming and diving squad finish day one of the Bucknell Trials/Finals Invitational in third out of five squads with 346 points. Ahead of the Bison after day one of the two day meet was Towson in first with 687 points and James Madison in second with 484.
Bersani was the lone event winner for the Orange and Blue as she took first on the one-meter board with a score of 254.90, following up a school-record mark of 258.35 in preliminaries. Sophomore Eliza Massie (Rochester, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) was the runner-up in the event, scoring 210.60 points in the final.
Also posting a second-place performance was sophomore Courtney Warren (Montour Falls, N.Y./Watkins Glen) in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 59.33 seconds.
Freshman Molly Goebel (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) was one of two Bison newcomers set new program top-10 marks on Saturday as she improved to ninth on Bucknell's list with a time of 24.45 in the preliminaries of the 50 free before going on to place fourth in the final with a time of 24.63. Freshman Macey Keath (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) broke into the Bison top-10 for the 100 breast with a time of 1:07.75 in the trials session, good for seventh all-time. In the 100 breast final, Keath claimed seventh with a time of 1:08.05, following junior Kelly Morris (Metuchen, N.J./Metuchen) who was Bucknell's top finisher in the event, placing fifth (1:07.15).
Senior Kristen Skroski (North Haven, Conn./Hopkins) led the Orange and Blue in the 1,650 free as she posted a seventh-place time of 17:37.05 and also qualified for the "A" final in the 200 free, where she finished eighth in 1:57.33.
Three Bison qualified for the "A" final in the 200 IM as sophomore Abigail Atkinson (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) was sixth (2:12.75), freshman Sinead O'Dwyer (Green River, Wyo./The Peddie School (N.J.)) came in seventh (2:13.49) and sophomore Megan Mongan (Malvern, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) took eighth (2:13.86).
Bucknell will continue to compete in the Trials/Finals Invitational tomorrow, Nov. 18, with trials set to begin at 10 a.m. and finals scheduled for 5 p.m., in Kinney Natatorium.
