LEWISBURG, Pa. - For the second time in three years, a member of the Bucknell men's soccer team earned Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year as Joey Kuterbach (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood) was named the winner of the award at Thursday night's Patriot League Tournament banquet. The First Team All-Patriot League performer joins his former mentor, Adam Edwards, as Bison netminders who have earned Goalkeeper of the Year plaudits.
One of the best goalies in Bucknell history, Kuterbach has put together an outstanding senior campaign. The two-year team captain has 71 saves, a career-best 0.75 goals-against average and a career-best .835 save percentage. Additionally, he has equaled his career high, and is tied for the Patriot League lead, with eight shutouts this year.
Kuterbach is among the Patriot League leaders in nearly every category. He stands second in goals-against average and saves and is third in save percentage.
Despite being the full-time starter for just two years, Kuterbach has risen up the Bucknell career lists swiftly. He has 18 career shutouts, which is fourth in Bison history, just one behind Patriot League All-Decade Team member Mark Wrigley, who is in third. A starter in each of the last 41 Bucknell games, Kuterbach stands tied for seventh on the Bison career saves list with 232.
A three-time Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week this year, Kuterbach spent his first two years in Orange and Blue as a backup to Edwards. He started eight games as a freshman and then saw action in just four as a sophomore. However, over the last two years, Kuterbach has played all but 49:25 in goal for the Bison. Over that span, the squad has piled up an 18-13-10 record and recorded 16 shutouts.
Kuterbach will try to lead Bucknell to its second consecutive Patriot League Tournament title this weekend in Worcester, Mass. He was named the 2006 Patriot League Tournament MVP after helping the fourth-seeded Bison to a pair of penalty kick shootout victories over Lehigh and Lafayette. Bucknell, which is seeded third this year, takes on second-seeded Colgate in the semifinals Friday at 6 p.m. Sunday's championship game is slated for 2 p.m.
