LEWISBURG, Pa. - Lehigh's Jaren Walker rushed for 94 yards and Sedale Threatt added 78 and three touchdowns as the Bucknell football team lost its final home game of the 2007 campaign 38-10 to Lehigh Saturday afternoon at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. The Bison trailed just 14-10 at halftime, but were forced to punt three times and fumbled once on their four second-half possessions.
Bucknell (2-8, 0-5 PL) overcame three first-half turnovers to trail by just four points at halftime. The Bison fell behind 14-0 in the first quarter as Lehigh (5-5, 2-3 PL) capitalized on the turnovers with a pair of touchdowns. A 58-yard fumble return by Tim Diamond put the Mountain Hawks up 7-0 less than two minutes into the contest. Later in the quarter, Threatt capped a 14-play, 73-yard drive that ate up nearly seven minutes with a one-yard run.
Behind five consecutive rushes from freshman fullback Ryan Smith, who led the team with 32 rushing yards, Bucknell got on the board on its first drive of the second half as Terrance Wilson scampered into the end zone from four yards out.
A 37-yard field goal from Will Carney, his longest of the season, in the final minutes of the second quarter made the score 14-10.
Lehigh's offense took over in the second half, tallying 24 points and possessing the ball for more than 22 minutes. The Mountain Hawks marched down the field and scored on their opening drive of the half and proceeded to score three touchdowns and a field goal on their five second-half possessions with the final one culminating with the conclusion of the game.
Bucknell managed just 182 yards off offense, compared to 382 for Lehigh. The Bison rushed for 117 yards, led by Smith's 32, as eight different Bucknell players received carries in the contest.
Josh Gornto and Josh Eden paced the Bison on defense with nine tackles apiece, while Ryan Slater totaled six tackles, forced a fumble, was credited with a pass breakup and registered on tackle for loss in his last home game.
Terrance Wilson, who got the start on Senior Day, and Marcello Trigg split time at quarterback for Bucknell. They combined to go 5 of 9 passing for 65 yards. Wilson added 16 yards rushing, including the touchdown run.
The Mountain Hawks had Threatt, Chris Bokosky and J.B. Clark all play quarterback. Bokosky saw the majority of the snaps, especially in passing situations, and was 13 of 20 for 136 yards, one touchdown and one interception. That one interception was by Ahkiel White on the goaline in the closing minutes of the first half.
Prior to the game 18 Bison seniors were honored as part of Senior Day festivities.
Bucknell will wrap up its 2007 season next Saturday, Nov. 17, at Fordham, which has already clinched at least a share of the Patriot League title.
