LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior midfielder Justin Wolf (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II Men's Soccer First Team on Thursday. It marks the second consecutive year he has earned the honor and he will now advance to the national Academic All-America ballot.
Wolf has started every game for the Bison over the last three seasons and has started 70 of 76 career games at his midfield position. He is second on the team this year in goals (4) and points (11) and is tied for the team lead with a career high-tying three assists. Wolf's 23 career points are the most of any current Bison player.
By posting at least two assists every year of his career, Wolf has accumulated 11 in his career, placing him two shy of tying Steve Goldenring for 10th place on the Bucknell career list.
A management major with a 3.54 cumulative grade-point average, Wolf, a team captain this year, is a three-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member and a five-time Dean's List selection. In recent years Wolf has volunteered his time to help remodel a local YMCA and donated funds to the YMCA as well. Each of the last two summers he has served as a finance/business intern at Chief Enterprises, a dedicated supplier to the sign and screen print industries. Additionally, based on his business background and problem-solving skills, Wolf was selected to take part in the prestigious Johnson & Johnson Case Study in 2006.
Wolf's accolade marks the 10th all-time Academic All-District selection for the Bucknell men's soccer program, and the seventh under ninth-year head coach Brendan Nash. Wolf joins Greg Beatty and Jonathan Hemmert as the only Bison to earn Academic All-District honors at least twice. He will now try to join Beatty, Hemmert and Ryan Weber as the only Bucknell men's soccer players to earn Academic All-America plaudits.
In order to be eligible for Academic All-District and All-America honors, a student-athlete must carry a minimum 3.20 GPA and be a starter or key reserve on his or her team.
Bucknell has had 114 Academic All-Americans since 1970, fourth-most in the nation among Division I programs, behind only Nebraska, Notre Dame, Penn State and Stanford.
Wolf and the rest of the Bison men's soccer team will be in action Friday night at 8 p.m. when they host Lehigh. The contest will be televised nationally on Fox Soccer Channel.
