Bison Tennis Finishes Day Two At Bucknell Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's and women's tennis team continued play at the Bucknell Invitational on Saturday with three doubles rounds and one round of singles against UConn, Quinnipiac, and NJIT.
For the men, in Flight 1 doubles, junior Jonathan Brenner (Manhasset, N.Y./Chaminade) and junior Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif./Canyon) won all three of their matches in the first day of doubles action. The duo started the day with an 8-4 win over John Hughes and Charlie Feldman of Quinnipiac, went on to defeat Joe Schueler and Goldstein of UConn (8-6) and ended with a win over Cosmin Chiujdea and Anthony Tunnero of NJIT, 8-3.
In Flight 2 doubles, senior Ira Reibeisen (Armonk, N.Y./Rye Country Day-Upper School) picked up two wins, teaming with freshman Anton Kovic (Montreal, Canada/Milton Academy - Mass.) to defeat Steve Erickson and Jonathan Lang of NJIT in the first round (8-2) and with sophomore Zach Hascoe (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick) to top Christian Malerba and Joey Michaels of UConn in the third round, 8-3.
Senior Ben Young (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) and freshman Mark Malloy (Bronxville, N.Y./Hackley School) went 8-2 over Ramy Lawandy and Tim Weiman of NJIT and 8-6 over Tom Curran and Joe Nurara of Quinnipiac in the first and second round of Flight 3, respectively.
Junior Jamie Watson (Darien, Conn./Darien) and sophomore Peter Eyvazzadeh (Bethlehem, Pa./Moravian Academy) picked up two wins for the Bison in Flight 4, defeating Doug Zytko and Siddharth Verma of NJIT in the first round (8-2) and topping Quinnipiac's Dillon Kraus and Vinny Corvari (9-7) in the second round.
In singles action, the men notched five wins in the second round of play. Reibeisen defeated Steve Erikson of NJIT (6-4, 6-4) in Flight 1, Hascoe went 5-7, 6-4, 10-5, over Andrew Marcus of UConn in Flight 4, and Malloy won his match over Ramy Lawandy of NJIT (6-2, 6-0) in Flight 5. In Flight 7, Young notched a win over Aaron Ribchinsky of UConn (6-4, 4-6, 12-10) and in Flight 8, junior Daniel Bednarek (Haworth, N.J./Bergen Catholic) finished ahead of Doug Zytko of NJIT, 6-1, 6-1.
On the women's side, Bucknell's Flight 3 doubles team of sophomore Renee Weissend (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) and sophomore Kirstyn Sotak (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Hathaway Brown) notched a win against Chioiri Koike and Fatima Kasem of NJIT (8-5) in the second round.
In singles action, junior Tiffany Card (Little Silver, N.J./Red Bank Regional) defeated Shawna Sarson of Quinnipiac (0-6, 7-5, 10-8) in Flight 7, and Sotak went 6-2, 5-7, 10-6, over junior Camille Simonetti (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) in Flight 8.
The Bucknell Invitational will wrap up on Sunday with two singles rounds and one round of doubles.
