LEWISBURG, Pa. - Junior Jennifer Dervarics (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) and freshman Kelsey Johnson (Monroe, Conn./Masuk) tallied two goals apiece, helping the Bucknell women's soccer team close out its home regular season slate with a 4-1 victory over Princeton on Wednesday evening on Varsity Soccer Field. The win, which moves the Bison to 10-7-0 on the season, also marked the first in program history against the Tigers (8-6-1), who are currently ranked seventh in the Mid-Atlantic Region, and gave Bucknell its third consecutive 10-win season for the first time in program history.
At the 10:55 mark, Dervarics netted her first of the evening as she drove the ball past Princeton netminder Maren Dale off a feed from Kelliann Doherty (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional) along the endline to put the Orange and Blue in front, 1-0.
Johnson followed up in the 26th minute with her first collegiate goal, which would be the eventual game-winner. After corralling a throw-in from sophomore Chelsea McGorry (Charlton, Mass./Shepherd Hill Regional), Johnson lofted a shot from the top of the box that found its way over Dale and into the back of the net.
In the 29th minute, freshman Christa Matlack (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport Area) sent a cross from the right that found sophomore Molly Linhart (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel Area) on the left-hand side of the goal, which Linhart then fed to Dervarics in the middle, who punched it in. The tally was Dervarics' 11th of the year, tying her for the ninth-best single season total in program history while her 27 points ranks eighth. On the Bison career lists, she is now fifth in points (58) and seventh in goals (23).
Capitalizing on a corner kick opportunity at 71:44, Johnson added her second of the evening as she tipped in the kick from junior Leah Grimm (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls).
The lone tally of the night for Princeton came when Diana Matheson converted on a penalty kick in the 75th minute, bringing the final score to 4-1.
Bucknell led the Tigers in shots, 12-9, and in corner kicks, 5-3. Sophomore Kathryn Sutton (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area) made four saves for the Bison, while Dale recorded two stops for Princeton. Fouls were even at five apiece.
Bucknell will close out the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 3, when the squad will travel to Washington, D.C., for a Patriot League match against American, beginning at noon.
