LEWISBURG, Pa. - After helping the Bucknell women's soccer team clinch a playoff berth for a third consecutive season, freshman Christa Matlack (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport Area) was tabbed the Patriot League BRINE Rookie of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. The award marked the third of the season for Matlack and was the fifth time a member of the Orange and Blue has collected the accolade in 2007 out of nine weeks the honor has been presented thus far.
In Bucknell's 6-0 win over Lafayette this past Sunday, which locked the team into a spot in the postseason, Matlack set a new career high with five points on two goals and one assist. Against Lehigh last Friday, she dished a helper on the lone tally for the Bison in the 3-1 setback.
On the year, Matlack ranks second on the squad in points with 20 and in goals with eight, while she is tied for second in assists with four, giving her the fifth-highest point total recorded by a freshman in program history and the most since Kristie Simon registered 21 points as a rookie in 2000.
Bucknell will play its final regular season home game of the season this Wednesday, Oct. 31, as the Bison will take on Princeton, beginning at 7 p.m. on Varsity Soccer Field.
