Bucknell Field Hockey To Finish Regular Season Against Lafayette For Senior Day

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell field hockey team is set to face Patriot League foe Lafayette at home on Saturday afternoon to close out the 2007 regular season. The Bison are coming off a 6-1 loss against No. 9 Penn State this past Tuesday night at Graham Field.
Prior to Saturday's game, Bucknell's five seniors, Kelly Hoffman (Boyertown, Pa./Oley Valley), Katie Leinen (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East), Chyncia Smith (Flemington, N.J./North Hunterdon Central), Lindsey Weller (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) and student trainer Amy Backstrom (Marlton, N.J.), will be recognized before their final home game of their careers.
Bison Field Hockey Notebook
On the Lafayette Leopards -
- The Leopards are 8-9 on the season and 2-2 in Patriot League match-ups, picking up wins against Drexel (2-0), Quinnipiac (2-1), Columbia (2-1, OT), Lehigh (3-2), Georgetown (3-2, 3OT), Rider (1-0), Colgate (1-0) and West Chester (4-1). Lafayette has dropped games to Rutgers, Cornell, Penn, La Salle, Saint Joseph's, Temple, Holy Cross, Penn State and American.
- Lafayette ranks third in the Patriot League (behind first-place American and second-place Colgate) with an overall winning percentage of .471 and league winning percentage of .500.
- Most recently, the Leopards picked up a 4-1 non-league win at West Chester on Oct. 24. Lafayette has won its past four-straight games, two at home and two away.
- On Oct. 22, Lafayette's Kelly Anderson was named Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week and Meghan Cicchi earned Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week honors. On Oct. 24, Anderson earned her second weekly award when she was named ECAC Goalkeeper of the Week for recording back-to-back shutouts against Rider and Colgate.
- As a team, the Leopards have notched 22 goals on the season and have allowed 31 opponent goals, tallying a shot percentage of .185 and a goals-against average of 2.22.
- Maggie Condon leads Lafayette with 21 points (8g, 5a) ranking her seventh in the league for total points this season. She is followed by Laura Fabian with seven points (3g, 1a).
- Goalkeeper Courtney Dixon has played a total of 742 minutes, 28 seconds for Lafayette this season, making 36 saves and recording a goals-against average of 2.78. In 513:16 of play, Anderson has recorded 15 saves and a goals-against average of 1.40.
- Last season, Lafayette and Bucknell faced off in Easton, Pa. on Oct. 28, and the Leopards came away with the 2-0 win.
On Bucknell Against No. 9 Penn State This Past Tuesday -
- Senior Katie Leinen (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) notched the lone goal for Bucknell in a 6-1 loss against No. 9 Penn State on Tuesday night at Graham Field, moving the Bison to 7-9 on the season.
- Bucknell held off Penn State for the first 28 minutes of play, but the Nittany Lions rallied for three goals in the last seven minutes of the first half. Bethany Marvel scored her first of three goals in the game at 28:37 after Britney Long's initial shot on goal was deflected. Less than 30 seconds later, Mallory Weisen put Penn State ahead, 2-0, netting the ball off a penalty corner. To close out the first half of play, Marvel tallied the Nittany Lions' third goal off an assist from Long.
- Just under two minutes into the second period, Marvel notched her fifth goal of the season off a scramble in front of the cage. Penn State's final two goals were scored by Jen Long and Shaun Banta, respectively. Both went unassisted.
- At the 51:52 mark, Bucknell went on the board when Leinen notched her first goal of the season to bring the final score to 6-1.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Jessie Atieh (North Caldwell, N.J.) made three saves off the Nittany Lions' nine shots on goal, while Penn State goalkeeper Jen Beaumont made four saves in the contest.
On the Bison in 2007 -
- Bucknell holds a 7-9 overall record and 0-4 Patriot League record in 2007, picking up wins against Kent State (3-2, OT), Monmouth (8-2), Towson (4-3), La Salle (1-0, OT), Saint Francis (Pa.) (4-0), Georgetown (3-2, OT), and Cornell (1-0). The Bison have dropped games to then-No. 13 Ohio State, then-No. 17 Delaware, Lock Haven, Lehigh, then-No.15 American, Penn, Colgate, Holy Cross and No. 9 Penn State.
- The Bison have netted 37 goals off 201 shot attempts for a shot percentage of .184 this season. Bucknell has allowed 46 goals and holds a goals-against average of 2.78.
- Hoffman and sophomore Megan Krebs (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./GAR Memorial) lead the Bison with 16 points on the season and are tied for ninth in the league for points this year. Hoffman has scored seven goals and has tallied two assists while Krebs has notched six goals and has recorded four assists.
- Hoffman and Krebs are followed by junior Amanda Faust (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) with 15 points (4g, 7a) and junior Trina Boyer (Macungie, Pa./ Upper Perkiomen) with 14 points (7g).
- Junior Steph Graf (Jamison, Pa./Central Bucks East) leads Bucknell in defensive saves, posting four of the Bison's six on the season.
- Goalkeeper Atieh has played in 14 games for the Bison, making 71 saves and recording a save percentage of .607. She recorded her first shutout of the season against Cornell (1-0) on Oct. 15. Sophomore goalkeeper Diana Bartley (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) has played two games this season for Bucknell, notching two shutouts, against La Salle (1-0 OT) and against Saint Francis (Pa.) (4-0).
Honors and Rankings -
- Bucknell is sixth in the Patriot League with an overall record of 7-9, PL record of 0-4, and overall winning percentage of .438. American leads the way with a 13-4 overall record, 4-0 PL record, and .765 overall winning percentage.
- Three Bison field hockey players notched Patriot League weekly honors on Sept. 24. Hoffman was named Offensive Player of the Week, Faust took Defensive Player of the Week, and Atieh claimed Goalkeeper of the Week.
- On Sept. 17, Krebs took Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week honors for posting four points by notching a goal against Lock Haven, and netting the game-winning tally against La Salle in the extra period. Bartley was named Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week on Sept.17, for recording eight saves in her first game of the season, to help the Bison secure their first shutout in 2007.
- Faust was tabbed Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 4 after leading the Bison to an 8-2 victory over Monmouth in the home opener on Sept. 1.
- On Aug. 27, Krebs was named Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week for making a 3-2 win against Kent State possible for Bucknell by scoring the goal that tied the score and having the game-winning assist in overtime.
