Bucknell Field Hockey Plays Host To No. 9 Penn State, Tuesday Night

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell field hockey team is set to face No. 9 Penn State at home on Tuesday night. The Bison are coming off a 3-2 loss against Patriot League foe Holy Cross this past Saturday afternoon. Tuesday's game marks the second of three consecutive home games for Bucknell, to finish the 2007 regular season. The match-up against No. 9 Penn State is slated to begin at 7 p.m., at Graham Field and Live Internet Video will be available for the game for a subscription fee through www.BucknellBison.com.
Bison Field Hockey Notebook
On the No. 9 Penn State Nittany Lions -
- The Nittany Lions are 10-6 on the season and 2-3 in the Big Ten. Penn State has picked up wins over No. 11 Old Dominion (3-1), No. 19 Virginia (3-1), No. 20 Princeton (5-1), Temple (2-0), West Chester (5-0), Lock Haven (4-3), Northwestern (5-0), No. 18 Syracuse (3-1), Indiana (2-0) and Lafayette (1-0). The Nittany Lions has dropped games to No. 6 UConn, No. 8 James Madison, No. 1 North Carolina, No. 4 Michigan, No. 7 Michigan State and No. 5 Iowa, while also tying Towson in an exhibition game to open the season.
- Penn State is coming off a 2-1 loss in overtime to No. 5 Iowa in Iowa City on Saturday, Oct. 20.
- As of Oct. 16, Penn State ranked No. 9 in the national poll.
- Penn State has notched 37 goals this season, off 186 shot attempts, for a shot percentage of .199. The Nittany Lions have allowed 22 goals off 139 opponent shots and hold a goals-against average of 1.32.
- Brittany Long leads Penn State with 19 points (9g, 1a) and is the leading scorer for the Nittany Lions this season. She is followed by Kiersten Wood with 17 points (6g, 5a), Shaun Banta with 15 points (5g, 5a) and Allison Scola with 14 points (3g, 8a).
- Goalkeeper Jen Beaumont has started all 16 games, playing a total of 1154 minutes and 38 seconds. She holds a save percentage of .750, recording 66 saves. She also holds a goals-against average of 1.33, allowing 22 goals this season. Goalkeeper Ali Meves has played 10:22 this year.
- The last time Penn State and Bucknell faced off was Oct. 18, 2005. Penn State came away with the 6-0 win in State College, Pa.
On Bucknell Against Holy Cross This Past Saturday -
- The Bison fell, 3-2, against Patriot League foe Holy Cross at home on Oct. 20, to move Bucknell to 7-8 on the season and 0-4 in the Patriot League. After Saturday's game, the Crusaders are 5-11 on the season and 2-2 in the Patriot League.
- Bucknell took an early lead at just ten minutes into play when junior Amanda Faust (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) netted the ball off assists by juniors Steph Graf (Jamison, Pa./Central Bucks East) and Emily Hutchison (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley) following a penalty corner.
- In the 23rd minute, Holy Cross' Kim Powell scored on a penalty stroke to tie the game at 1-1. At the 26:10 mark, Lauren Colletta tallied the Crusaders' second goal of the game off a feed from Sara O'Coin following a scramble in front of the cage. Just over a minute later, Holy Cross took a 3-1 lead when Courtney Callahan took a hard shot off an assist by Coletta.
- In the second half, Bucknell narrowed the Crusaders' lead to 3-2, when Faust scored her second goal of the game off assists by Graf and Hutchison following another penalty corner.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Jessie Atieh (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex) recorded six saves for the Bison while Holy Cross goalkeeper Erin Singleton made seven saves for the Crusaders.
On the Bison in 2007 -
- Bucknell holds a 7-8 overall record and 0-4 Patriot League record in 2007, picking up wins against Kent State (3-2, OT), Monmouth (8-2), Towson (4-3), La Salle (1-0, OT), Saint Francis (Pa.) (4-0), Georgetown (3-2, OT), and Cornell (1-0). The Bison have dropped games to then-No. 13 Ohio State, then-No. 17 Delaware, Lock Haven, Lehigh, then-No.15 American, Penn, Colgate and Holy Cross.
- The Bison have netted 36 goals off 193 shot attempts for a shot percentage of .187 this season. Bucknell has allowed 40 goals and holds a goals-against average of 2.58.
- Senior Kelly Hoffman (Boyertown, Pa./Oley Valley) and sophomore Megan Krebs (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./GAR Memorial) lead the Bison with 16 points on the season. Hoffman has scored seven goals and has tallied two assists while Krebs has notched six goals and has recorded four assists.
- Hoffman and Krebs are followed by Faust with 15 points (4g, 7a) and junior Trina Boyer (Macungie, Pa./ Upper Perkiomen) with 14 points (7g).
- Goalkeeper Atieh has played in 13 games for the Bison, making 68 saves and recording a save percentage of .630. She recorded her first shutout of the season against Cornell (1-0) on Oct. 15. Sophomore goalkeeper Diana Bartley (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) has played two games this season for Bucknell, notching two shutouts, against La Salle (1-0 OT) and against Saint Francis (Pa.) (4-0).
Honors and Rankings -
- Bucknell is sixth in the Patriot League with an overall record of 7-8, PL record of 0-4, and overall winning percentage of .467. American leads the way with a 13-4 overall record, 3-0 PL record, and .765 overall winning percentage.
- Three Bison field hockey players notched Patriot League weekly honors on Sept. 24. Hoffman was named Offensive Player of the Week, Faust took Defensive Player of the Week, and Atieh claimed Goalkeeper of the Week.
- On Sept. 17, Krebs took Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week honors for posting four points by notching a goal against Lock Haven, and netting the game-winning tally against La Salle in the extra period. Bartley was named Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week on Sept.17, for recording eight saves in her first game of the season, to help the Bison secure their first shutout in 2007.
- Faust was tabbed Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 4 after leading the Bison to an 8-2 victory over Monmouth in the home opener on Sept. 1.
- On Aug. 27, Krebs was named Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week for making a 3-2 win against Kent State possible for Bucknell by scoring the goal that tied the score and having the game-winning assist in overtime.

- Following this Tuesday's game, the Bison will host Lafayette on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 1 p.m., to close out the regular season with Senior Day.
