Three Members of the Bucknell Women's Soccer Team Collect Weekly Awards

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Three members of the Bucknell women's soccer team were recognized with weekly awards on Monday after helping the Bison improve to 4-0-0 in Patriot League play this past Saturday with a 3-1 win over Colgate. Junior Jennifer Dervarics (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) was named both the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week and the Patriot League BRINE Offensive Player of the Week, while sophomore Kathryn Sutton (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area) was tabbed the league's Goalkeeper of the Week and freshman Christa Matlack (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport Area) earned PL Rookie of the Week honors.
Dervarics picked up her first career Offensive Player of the Week accolade and was named the Bison Athlete of the Week for the third time in her career after tallying two goals against the Raiders. She gave Bucknell a 1-0 lead in the 31st minute and later netted the game winner at 58:48 after Colgate had evened the score at one. Now with 23 points on the year (9g, 5a), Dervarics has surpassed her career highs for both goals and points in a single season. She also improved her rankings in Bucknell's record book as she is now tied for seventh in both career points (54) and career goals (21). In four Patriot League matches thus far, Dervarics has registered five goals and one assist for 11 points.
Sutton collected her third consecutive Patriot League BRINE Goalkeeper of the Week award, her fourth of the season, after making five saves and recording the win against the Raiders, Bucknell's first ever victory in Hamilton, N.Y. She has played all 360 minutes of the Orange and Blue's league matches this season and holds a 0.50 goals against average with 18 saves in those contests for a .900 save percentage. Overall, Sutton has compiled a record of 8-5-0 and has a 1.45 goals against average and a .765 save percentage in just under 1,180 minutes played with 62 saves and four shutouts.
Matlack, who was selected as the Patriot League BRINE Rookie of the Week for the second time this season after first earning the award on Sept. 10, tallied an important insurance goal for the Bison, helping to seal the 3-1 victory over Colgate. On the year, she has registered 14 points on six goals and two assists and currently ranks second on the squad in scoring.
Bucknell (8-6-0, 4-0-0 PL) will return home this coming Friday, Oct. 26, for a Patriot League contest against Lehigh, which is set to kick off at 7 p.m. The match will be carried live on internet video broadcast, available for a subscription fee through www.BucknellBison.com.
