ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Bucknell men's water polo team, ranked 16th nationally, snapped a two-game losing with an 11-6 win over Harvard Saturday afternoon. The Bison improved to 13-10 this season and will play Johns Hopkins in a CWPA league game Saturday evening at 7 p.m.
Mark Masterson (Kihei, Hawaii/Marin) and Jason Rechel (Columbus, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) tallied three goals apiece for Bucknell, while Randy Ang (Hillsborough, Calif./Sacred Heart Prep) registered a career-high five assists as he earned his second start of the season. His assist total was the most by a Bison since Aaron Platshon had five on Oct. 16, 2005. Ang had just nine total assists entering the game.
Josh Sunday (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and Alex Lampley (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin) added two goals apiece to the Bucknell offensive effort, while Kyle Roslyn (Philadelphia, Pa./William Penn Charter) paced the defense with three steals.
The Bison had to come from behind in the contest, but did that with a three-goal second quarter and a six-goal output in the third. They trailed 2-1 after the first stanza, but outscored the Crimson 9-2 over the next two periods.
Miles Gilhuly (Orinda, Calif./Miramonte) recorded nine saves in goal, giving him 65 this year, just 10 behind team leader Luke Belenky (Kensington, Md./German School).
With its victory, Bucknell improved to 14-7 all-time against Harvard, which fell to 10-10 this season.
The Bison will step back into league play Saturday night against Johns Hopkins. Bucknell won the previous meeting this season between the two teams 11-8 at Kinney Natatorium.
