Bucknell Men's Tennis Takes Two Titles At Quinnipiac Invitational

Hamden, Conn. - The Bucknell men's tennis team wrapped up play at the Quinnipiac Invitational on Sunday, playing two rounds of singles and the final round of doubles. Junior Daniel Bednarek (Haworth, N.J./Bergen Catholic) won Flight D singles while the Bison pair of junior Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif/Canyon) and sophomore Zach Hascoe (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick) took home the title for Flight B doubles.
Bednarek was able to go undefeated on the weekend, bringing his singles record to 10-1 on the season. He defeated James McGuire of Rhode Island in the final round, 6-3, 2-6, 10-7, on Sunday.
In Flight B doubles, Sandburg and Hascoe went a close 9-8 over McGuire and Gart of Rhode Island in the final round, to win the flight and go undefeated for the weekend.
In Flight A doubles, the Bison team of senior Ira Reibeisen (Armonk, N.Y./Rye Country Day-Upper School) and freshman Anton Kovic (Montreal, Canada/Milton Academy - Mass.) advanced to the final round, but dropped the match, 9-8, to Mikkelson and Pease of Quinnipiac.
After Saturday's rounds of singles, senior Ben Young ((New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) and Kovic advanced to the semifinal in Flight C singles. Both dropped their semifinal matches on Sunday; Young fell to Christian Malerba of UConn (6-4, 6-2) and Kovic fell to Tom Cook of UConn (6-7, 7-5).
The Bucknell men's tennis team is now set to prepare for ITA Regionals, Oct. 18 - 20 in Princeton, N.J., to close out the fall season.
