
No. 15 Bucknell Men's Water Polo Drops 10-8 Decision to No. 5 Pepperdine

IRVINE, Calif. - In its opening game at the SoCal Tournament, the No. 15 Bucknell men's water polo team fell to No. 5 Pepperdine 10-8 on Saturday afternoon at Corona del Mar High School. The Bison came back from a five-goal deficit at the end of the third quarter, but could draw no closer than the final two-goal margin.
Bucknell will play Pacific at 7 p.m. Eastern on Saturday in its second game of the weekend tournament that features 14 nationally ranked squads.
Mark Masterson (Kihei, Hawaii/Marin) paced the Bison with two goals, two assists and a team-high three steals.
Kyle Roslyn (Philadelphia, Pa./William Penn Charter) also tallied two goals to equal Masterson for the team lead, while Jason Rechel (Columbus, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) and Peter O'Keefe (Philadelphia, Pa./William Penn Charter) also recorded a pair of assists.
Luke Belenky (Kensington, Md./German School) played the first three quarters in goal for Bucknell and made three saves. Miles Gilhuly (Orinda, Calif./Miramonte) played the final quarter in goal and stopped one shot while allowing just one goal.
The Bison (11-6) fell behind 5-2 at halftime and trailed 9-4 at the end of the third before outscoring Pepperdine (18-3) 4-1 in the final quarter.
Bucknell will continue play at the highly competitive SoCal Tournament Saturday at 7 p.m. Eastern against No. 14 Pacific, a team it defeated 10-5 in early September.
