Bucknell Volleyball Picks Up 3-0 Victory Over Holy Cross

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell volleyball team picked up a 3-0 victory over Patriot League foe Holy Cross on Friday night in Davis Gym, behind 17 kills from senior Jenna Henderson (Elk Grove, Calif./Laguna Creek) who hit .433 in the contest (17-30-4). With the win, the Bison move their record to 9-11 on the year, 3-3 in league play, and the Crusaders drop to 3-17, 0-6 in the Patriot League.
In game one, the squads played close until Bucknell, trailing by one at 19-18, strung together seven straight points to take a 25-19 lead and went on post a 30-24 win in the opener.
After a 5-0 run took the Bison from down by one to up by four at 11-7 in game two, the Orange and Blue would not trail again in the frame on the way to a 30-21 victory. Bucknell saw its best offensive production of the match in the second game as the squad hit .379 (16-5-29) to Holy Cross' .038 (8-7-26).
Then in game three, the Bison led from the opening point and used a 7-0 stretch to build a comfortable 18-10 advantage. Bucknell recorded a 30-22 decision to seal the match.
Following Henderson was freshman Kaitlin Segal (Pacific Palisades, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) who hit .375 for the Orange and Blue with nine kills and just three errors on 16 attempts, while also adding three service aces. Freshman Heidi Kamp (Springfield, Ore./Henry D. Sheldon) had eight kills, hit .615 (8-0-13) and contributed six blocks (0-6). Junior Shannon Pitsch (Oak Brook, Ill./Fenwick) registered a career-high six service aces in the match to go along with her 31 assists and her team-best nine digs, while sophomore Jennifer Rupp (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa) chipped in with eight digs.
For the Crusaders, Christine Strawson and Meagan Merinder logged six kills apiece. Strawson had four service aces as well and Merinder posted five blocks. Setter Chelsey O'Donnell totaled 20 assists and Molly Anderson finished with a match-high 11 digs.
Bucknell will return to the court in Davis Gym, tomorrow evening, Oct. 13, for a Patriot League contest against Army at 5 p.m. The match will be carried live on internet video broadcast, available for a subscription fee through www.BucknellBison.com.
