Bucknell Field Hockey Travels To Colgate Saturday, Cornell Monday

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell field hockey team is set to play two games on the road this weekend, against Patriot League foe Colgate on Oct. 13, and against Cornell on Oct. 15. Saturday's game will mark Bucknell's third Patriot League match-up of the season, set to begin at 1 p.m. in Hamilton, N.Y. Monday's game is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Ithaca, N.Y. Bison Field Hockey Notebook
On the Colgate Raiders -
- The Raiders are 7-6 on the season and hold a 1-1 record in the Patriot League. Colgate has picked up wins against Rider (3-0), Central Michigan (2-1), Columbia (1-0), St. Francis (4-1), West Chester (2-0), Holy Cross (2-1) and Cornell (4-2). The Raiders have fallen to No. 18 Syracuse, New Hampshire, No. 17 Albany, Princeton and No. 16 American this season.
- As of Oct. 11, Colgate ranks second in the Patriot League, behind No. 16 American in first.
- Lauren Carey is the leading scorer for the Raiders with eight goals on the season. She also leads Colgate with 18 points (8g, 2a). Carey is followed by Lauren Remkus with 16 points (7g, 2a) and Katelyn Nerbonne with 12 points (6g).
- Goalkeeper Sarah Pederson has played 903:08 this season, recording 89 saves, a save percentage of .748 and a goals-against average of 2.33. Goalkeeper Kirsten Lalli has played 6:52 this season.
- Last year, Colgate played Bucknell in Lewisburg, Pa. on Oct. 14. The Bison defeated the Raiders, 4-2.
On the Cornell Big Red -
- The Big Red are 6-4 on the season and 3-2 in the Ivy League. Cornell has defeated Lehigh (2-1), Lafayette (2-0), Columbia (2-1, OT), Yale (1-0), Holy Cross (1-0) and Princeton (4-3). The Big Red have dropped games to Penn, Rutgers, Harvard and Colgate.
- Against Patriot League teams this season, Cornell has recorded three wins (Lehigh, Lafayette, Holy Cross) and one loss (Colgate).
- Alyssa DePaola is the leading scorer for Cornell with four goals and tallies nine points (4g, 1a) on the year. She is followed by Kate Thompson with eight points (3g, 2a) and Brenna Gulotta with seven points (3g, 1a).
- Goalkeeper Shannon Prescott has played 503:06 for the Big Red, notching 36 saves, a save percentage of .766 and a goals-against average of 1.53. Goalkeeper Lizzie Goldblatt has played 221:05, recording 14 saves, a save percentage of .737 and a goals-against average of 1.58. As a squad, Cornell holds a goals-against average of 1.55.
- Last year, Cornell played Bucknell in Lewisburg, Pa. on Oct. 16. The Bison defeated the Big Red, 3-2.
On Bucknell Against Then-No. 15 American Last Saturday -
- In the first of two home games last weekend, the Bison fell to then-No. 15 American, 3-0.
- American's Jesika Purnock put the Eagles at an early lead, netting the ball at eight minutes 49 seconds into play. In the 21st minute, Anne Meike deWiljes scored off a penalty stroke, shooting the ball into the right corner of the cage. At 29:20, Irene Schickhardt fed the ball to Savannah Graybill right in front of the goal to put American ahead, 3-0.
- The Bison defense held the Eagles scoreless for the remaining 40 minutes of play.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Jessie Atieh (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex) made three saves for the Bison, two coming in the second half. American's goalkeeper Alyssa Poorman made five saves for the Eagles. The Bison took nine shots in the contest, putting five on goal.
On Bucknell Against Penn Last Sunday -
- The Bison fell to Penn, 2-0, in the second of two games hosted at Graham Field last weekend.
- Penn's Andrea Rockey put the first goal of the game on the board just 15 seconds before the end of the first half, netting the ball off a feed from Kara Bolger. In the 64th minute, Penn notched the second goal of the game when Melissa Black went unassisted.
- Goalkeeper Atieh made 10 saves off of the Quakers' 13 shots on goal, while junior Steph Graf (Jamison, Pa./Central Bucks East) recorded a defensive save. Penn's goalkeeper Alanna Butera made seven saves in the contest.
On the Bison in 2007 -
- Bucknell holds a 6-6 overall record and 0-2 Patriot League record in 2007, picking up wins against Kent State (3-2, OT), Monmouth (8-2), Towson (4-3), La Salle (1-0, OT), Saint Francis (Pa.) (4-0), and Georgetown (3-2, OT). The Bison have dropped games to then-No. 13 Ohio State, then-No. 17 Delaware, Lock Haven, Lehigh, then-No.15 American and Penn.
- The Bison have netted 30 goals off 152 shot attempts for a shot percentage of .197 this season. Bucknell has allowed 33 goals and hold a goals-against average of 2.64.
- Sophomore Megan Krebs (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./GAR Memorial) leads the Bison with 16 points (6g, 4a) and is tied as Bucknell's leading scorer with junior Trina Boyer (Macungie, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) and senior Kelly Hoffman (Boyertown, Pa./Oley Valley), with six goals each.
- Krebs is followed by Hoffman with 14 points (6g, 2a), Boyer with 12 points (6g), and junior Amanda Faust (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) with 10 points (2g, 6a).
- Goalkeeper Atieh has played in ten games for the Bison, making 55 saves and recording a save percentage of .625. Sophomore goalkeeper Diana Bartley (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) has played two games this season for Bucknell, notching two shutouts, against La Salle (1-0 OT) and against Saint Francis (Pa.) (4-0).
Honors and Rankings -
- Bucknell is sixth in the Patriot League with an overall record of 6-6, PL record of 0-2, and overall winning percentage of .500. American leads the way with a 10-4 overall record, 2-0 PL record, and .714 overall winning percentage.
- Three Bison field hockey players notched Patriot League weekly honors on Sept. 24. Hoffman was named Offensive Player of the Week, Faust took Defensive Player of the Week, and Atieh claimed Goalkeeper of the Week.
- On Sept. 17, Krebs took Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week honors for posting four points by notching a goal against Lock Haven, and netting the game-winning score against La Salle in the extra period. Bartley was named Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week on Sept.17, for recording eight saves in her first game of the season, to help the Bison secure their first shutout in 2007.
- Faust tabbed Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week Honors on Sept. 4 after leading the Bison to an 8-2 victory over Monmouth in the home opener on Sept. 1.
- On Aug. 27, Krebs was named Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week for making a 3-2 win against Kent State possible for Bucknell by scoring the goal that tied the score and having the game-winning assist in overtime.
Looking Ahead -
- After the upcoming two-game weekend, the Bison will return home for a Patriot League match-up against Holy Cross on Oct. 20 and will look to host Penn State on Oct. 23.
