Bucknell Women's Tennis Competes in Cornell Winter Classic

Ithaca, N.Y. - The Bucknell women's tennis team completed their first day of competition at the Cornell Winter Classic on Friday in Ithaca, N.Y. Sophomore Ashley Globerman (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown) recorded the Bison's lone victory in Flight A singles over Milena Kachar of Columbia.
Also in Flight A, sophomore Paulina Gamboa (Mexico City, Mexico/Greengates) loss to Tamara John of Cornell, 6-3, 6-3. In Flight B singles, freshman Renee Weissend (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) fell to Cornell's Nisha Suda, 6-1, 6-2. Freshman Carlin Calcaterra (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) loss a three-set tiebreaker to Shayna Miller of Cornell, 5-7, 6-2, (10-8).
Freshman Kirstyn Sotak (Beechwood, Ohio/Hathaway Brown) dropped a three-set tiebreaker to Army's Paige Ford, 3-6, 6-3, (11-9), while Tiffany Card (Little Silver, N.J./Red Bank Regional) and JoAnna Grossman (Florham Park, N.J./Hanover Park) fell in straight-sets to Temple's Sharanya Pattabi and Anastasilia Rukavyshnykova, 6-1, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-0, respectively.
In Flight A doubles play, Globerman and freshman Eva Lipiec (Rockaway, N.Y./Poly Prep) fell to Cornell's Elizabeth Googe and John, 8-2, but dropped Sarah Giles-Madden and Brooke Jones of Army in the back draw, 8-6.
The Bucknell women's tennis squad will compete in day two of the Cornell Winter Classic in Ithaca, N.Y. on Saturday, Jan. 27, at 9 a.m. with the second round of singles play.
