LEWISBURG, Pa - On Friday, the Bucknell men's indoor track and field team completed day one of the Bison Open and Multi in Gerhard Fieldhouse and the Penn State National Invitational in University Park, Pa. Seniors Matthew Forys (Howell, N.J./Howell) and Tyler Hoffman (Lewisburg, Pa./ Lewisburg) took first in their respective events at the Penn State National Invitational.
Forys, who has already qualified for the IC4A Championships in the one-mile run, added the 5,000-meters to the list as he ran for a time of 14 minutes, 16.28 seconds, just 4.38 from reaching the NCAA provisional qualifying mark. His time moved him into fourth place in school history. Hoffman improved on his IC4A Championship mark in the 35-lb weight throw after launching a distance of 63 feet, 3 ½ inches (19.29m). His distance was also a personal best.
At the Bison Open and Multi, freshmen Sean Coyne (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township), junior Matt Johnson (Newburgh, N.Y./Marboro Central) and freshman Sam Boyd (Hampden, Mass./Minnechaug Regional) qualified for the finals in the 200. Coyne ran a time of 23.31, which was good for sixth place, while Johnson and Boyd finished 10th and 12th with times of 23.43 and 23.52, respectively.
After the four events in the heptathlon, freshman Ryan White (Elkins Park, Pa./Father Judge) is 12th with a total of 2404 points, while Robert Gradoville (North Haven, Conn./North Haven) is in 15th-place with 2271. White placed sixth in the high jump with a height of 5-11 ¼ (1.81m). Gradoville posted a fifth-place finish in the shot put with a length of 34-7 ¾ (10.56m).
The Bucknell men's indoor track and field team will continue day two of competition at the Bison Open and Multi and Penn State National Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 27, The Bison Open will start at 10 a.m. in Gerhard Fieldhouse with the women's long jump, while the Penn State National Invitational is slated to start at 9:45 a.m. in University Park, Pa. with the 4x400 relay.
