LEWISBURG, Pa - Senior Tyler Hoffman (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) and sophomore Kerry Boyle (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton Area) posted record-breaking marks in day two of competition at the Bison Open and Multi and the Penn State National Invitational on Saturday.
Hoffman, who placed first in the 35-lb weight throw Friday night at the Penn State National Invitational, returned home to the Bison Open and Multi to win his fourth-straight competition with a throw of 64 feet, 11 ¼ inches (19.79m), which is a new school record and an NCAA provisional mark. Boyle ran a time of 47.59 seconds in the 400-meter dash at the Penn State National Invitational, which was good for first. His time was also a new school record, personal best, and an IC4A qualifying mark. Boyle also teamed with junior Brian Mooney (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili), sophomore Kevin Macleod (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) and freshman Gregory Baxter (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) to qualify for the IC4A Championships in the 4x400 relay after running a time of 3:15.96, just .45 shy of the school record.
Also at Penn State, senior Mark Caroleo (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) and Mooney qualified for the IC4A Championships in the 800. Caroleo placed fifth with a time of 2:27.60, while Mooney broke the plane with a time of 2:29.45. In the 3,000, junior Wallace Campbell (Montgomery, Ala./Montgomery Acad.) posted an eighth-place showing with a time of 8:26.65, which made him a IC4A qualifier.
In the Bison Open and Multi, freshman Kyle Ramer (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield), senior Adam Syty (East Amherst, N.Y./Clarence) and freshman Conor McNamara (Baldwin, N.Y./Chaminade) finished first thru third, respectively, in the 1,000. Ramer ran a time of 2:33.90, Syty crossed the line with a time of 2:34.04 and McNamara notched a time of 2:34.08. Senior Derrin Pierret (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) placed second in the 3,000 with a time of 8:52.82. The group of freshmen Sam Boyd (Hampden, Mass./Minnechaug Regional), Griffin Burns (Hanover, Pa./Mercersburg Acad.), Andrew Huebner (Hampton Falls, N.H./Gov. Dummer Acad.) and Kevin McGoldrick (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) marked a second-place finish in the distance medley with a time of 10:20.87.
Freshman Nick DeGregorio (Ridgewood, N.J./Bergen Catholic) threw for a distance of 49-5 ¾ (15.08m) in the shot put, while junior James Meyer (Pacific. Palisades, Calif./Pacific Palisades) finished third in the weight throw with a length of 54-7 ½ (16.65m), which is a personal best and ranks him seventh in school history. In the heptathlon, freshman Ryan White (Elkins Park, Pa./Father Judge) placed third with a total of 4365 points.
The Bucknell men's indoor track and field team will compete in the Akron Open in Akron, Ohio, on Saturday, Feb. 3. The meet will begin at 10:30 a.m.
