Conover's Bio
LEWISBURG, Pa. - Sean Conover, a 2006 Bucknell graduate and a former All-America defensive end for the Bison, has been signed to the Tennessee Titans' practice squad for the 2006 season. Conover played very well for the Titans throughout training camp and saw significant action in all four preseason games.
On Sunday the Titans had to cut down from 75 players to the NFL-mandated 53-man roster limit, and Conover was one of the 22 final cuts. However, Conover was one of seven players re-signed to the practice squad, along with CB Antoine Harris, LB Terna Nande, RB Quinton Ganther, T Justin Geisinger, TE Cooper Wallace and G Fred Matua.
In the NFL, practice squad players are eligible only to practice with the team throughout the week. However, they are considered free agents, and teams often sign players from other teams' practice squads to replace their own injured or cut players.
Conover was signed by the Titans as an undrafted free agent on May 5. He totaled seven tackles in the four preseason games. In Saturday's 35-21 victory over the Green Bay Packers, Conover sacked Aaron Rogers for a 6-yard loss that forced a third-quarter punt.
The Titans, who went 1-3 in the preseason, open the regular season this Sunday at home against the New York Jets. Tennessee was 4-12 last year and finished in third place in the AFC South.
Conover was the Patriot League's defensive player of the year in 2004. He finished his senior season with 44 tackles, including nine for loss and three sacks. Despite playing tight end his entire freshman season, he finished his career with 17.5 sacks, tied for fifth-most in Bucknell history. He also had nine career forced fumbles.
Conover moved to defensive end prior to his sophomore year and started all 34 games there over the last three seasons. He was a Second Team All-America selection after a junior year in which he had 10.5 sacks and 18 tackles for loss.
