Bucknell Men's Water Polo Snaps Losing Skid with 13-8 Victory Against George Washington

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Dan Schultz (Orinda, Calif./Miramonte) assisted on three goals in the first quarter and Chet Eimstad (Portland, Ore./Beaverton) tallied one goal and one assist in the first eight minutes of play as the Bucknell men's water polo team jumped out to 5-1 first-quarter lead on its way to a 13-8 victory over George Washington Saturday afternoon at Kinney Natatorium. The Bison snapped a three-game losing streak, all to ranked foes, with the win.
Schultz added one goal to go along with his team-high three assists to tie Jason Rechel (Columbus, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) for the team high in points. Rechel netted three goals and dished out one assist as Bucknell used a balanced scoring attack with nine different players scoring at least one goal.
After jumping out to the commanding four-goal lead in the first quarter, Bison head coach John Zeigler substituted liberally as every player on the Bucknell roster that was available saw action in the contest.
Bucknell's lead ballooned to a game-high seven points on three occasions (9-2, 10-3 and 12-5).
Luke Belenky (Kensington, Md./German School) played the first 22 minutes of the game in goal for the Bison and made three saves. Freshman Nick Donahue (Brooklyn, N.Y./Lawrenceville) relieved him for the final 10 minutes of play and yielded three goals while making a career-high three saves. It was his first game action since the opening weekend of the season.
George Washington fell to 6-5 and 0-4 in CWPA Southern Division play with the loss, while Bucknell upped its record to 7-5 overall and 2-1 in league play.
The No. 17 Bison, who lost to No. 14 Princeton Friday night, host No. 10 Navy Saturday night at 8 p.m. to conclude the weekend of play at Kinney Natatorium.
