BALTIMORE, Md. - Sean Robinson (San Marino, Calif./San Marino) equaled his career high with four goals and Kyle Roslyn (Philadelphia, Pa./William Penn Charter) established a new career high with seven points as the No. 17 Bucknell men's water polo team overcame a two-goal halftime deficit to defeat Johns Hopkins 13-12 Friday night.
The Bison trailed 9-7 at the half, but outscored the Blue Jays 4-1 in the third quarter to take an 11-10 advantage into the final quarter. Bucknell tallied the first two goals of the frame to open up a three-goal bulge as it downed Johns Hopkins for the second time this season. One key to the win was a solid 3-for-4 performance in man-up situations for Bucknell.
Roslyn netted three goals and dished out a career-high four assists to help the Bison win for the fifth time in six games. Josh Sunday (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and Jason Rechel (Columbus, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) tallied a pair of goals each to round out the list of multiple-goal scorers for Bucknell.
Luke Belenky (Kensington, Md./German School) stopped six Blue Jay shots to boost his season total to 114. The junior has started all 19 games for the Bison, who improved to 12-7 and 3-2 in league play. Johns Hopkins fell to 10-11 overall with the loss.
Mark Masterson (Kihei, Hawaii/Marin) spearheaded a Bucknell defense that recorded a season-high 21 steals with a career-high six of his own. Rechel and Roslyn contributed four apiece.
Bucknell continues its final weekend of the regular season Saturday with two more league road contests. The Bison take on No. 10 Navy at 12 p.m. and George Washington at 7 p.m. The Mids defeated Bucknell 11-7 at Kinney Natatorium last month, while the Bison upended the Colonials 13-8 at Kinney Natatorium the same weekend.
