LEWISBURG, Pa. - For the second consecutive week Bucknell's Nathan LaGrave (Okinawa, Japan/Kadena) was honored by the Patriot League, earning men's soccer Rookie of the Week plaudits Monday. He was also cited as the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week after being named MVP of the Bucknell Invitational.
LaGrave, a freshman who was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week last Monday, tallied two goals and an assist last week to help the Bison to post a 3-0 record, which included a perfect 2-0 at the Bucknell Invitational.
A starter in the last four Bucknell matches, LaGrave's move into the starting lineup coincides with the beginning of the team's current four-game winning streak. His first goal of the week came in the opening minutes of a 2-1 against Campbell on Friday night. LaGrave followed that with a one-goal, one-assist performance in a 3-1 come-from-behind victory opposite Rider. He again scored Bucknell's first goal, this time early in the second half, while he assisted on Kevin Holmes' score, which turned out to be the game-winning goal.
LaGrave, who is tied for the Patriot League lead in both points and goals, is the first Bucknell freshman to net four goals in a season since Eric Brunton finished with four in 2002. Brunton was also the last Bison rookie to tally more points than LaGrave's team-high nine. All nine of LaGrave's points this year have come in Bucknell's three home contests.
The Bison, who are in the midst of a four-game winning streak for the first time since accomplishing that feat twice in 2002, open up a three-match road trip Wednesday at La Salle. Kick off is slated for 7 p.m.
