LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell football coach Tim Landis has announced that offensive lineman Stefan Niemczyk (Broomall, Pa./Malvern Prep) and linebacker Dorian Petersen (Rahway, N.J./Rahway) have been elected co-captains for the 2006 season. The pair of rising seniors were picked in a vote of their teammates and coaching staff.
Niemczyk brings the team's longest active games started streak (21) into his senior season. One of the team's most consistent linemen, he started every game at left guard in 2005 and helped the Bison lead the Patriot League in rushing offense. He is the projected starter there again this fall, where he will lead a veteran cast of big men.

Petersen became a starting inside linebacker late in his freshman season and has been one of the league's best at that position over the last two seasons. Despite sitting out the final game of last season due to injury, he finished a close second on the team in tackles with 78. He tied for the team lead in pass breakups with seven and intercepted three passes, including one that he returned for a touchdown on the first play of the Colgate game. Petersen is Bucknell's active leader in games played (30) and tackles (203).
"Dorian and Stefan are excellent selections," said Landis. "Both have a wealth of experience on the playing field, and when you look at what they have accomplished so far in their careers it comes as no surprise that their teammates would think highly of them. They both stepped up as leaders throughout spring practice, and that made them attractive choices."
Looking to rebound from only its second losing season in the last 11 years, Bucknell returns 18 starters and 34 lettermen in 2006. The Bison open up against Duquesne on Saturday, Sept. 2 at 7 p.m.
