LEWISBURG, Pa. - Over the weekend Meagan Gins (Albuquerque, N.M./Valley) and Elizabeth Jensen (San Mateo, Calif./St. Ignatius Prep) helped lead the Bucknell women's water polo team to a fourth-place finish at the Eastern Championship, its best-ever showing, and were named to the Eastern Championship All-Tournament Team for their performance. Gins landed on the first team, while Jensen earned second-team plaudits. Both were honored for the first time in their careers.
Gins tallied four goals and four assists in the three games the Bison played, all against ranked opponents. She also drew 13 ejections, including a career-high six during a thrilling 6-5 overtime win against No. 18 Indiana. The sophomore entered the tournament tied with Meg Blitzer for the Bucknell single-season record for goals with 66 and increased that total to 70. Her record-breaking goal was the eventual game-winner against the Hoosiers. Gins finished the season with 103 points as she became the first Bison to ever eclipse the century mark.
Elizabeth Jensen was named to the Eastern Championship All-Tournament Second Team. |
