LEWISBURG, Pa. - With a win in the No. 2 singles spot over Lafayette this past Sunday in Easton, Pa., the Bucknell men's tennis senior captain, Asher Salam (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven), became the all-time career victories leader in combined singles and doubles. Earlier in the season, Salam took the title in the doubles category.
Sitting at the 102 combined wins mark for two matches, Salam finally earned win 103, as he defeated the Leopard's Brett Warren in a three-set match, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
Currently, the senior has 52 singles wins and 51 doubles wins. The doubles mark was broken with that 51st win back on March 26, when the Orange and Blue played host to Navy. Salam and his partner, Ira Reibeisen, defeated the duo of Nate Nelms and Brandon Carter, in the No. 1 spot, 9-8 (3), to secure the new record.
The captain's singles mark currently ties him for second with alumnus Steve Bomberger, eight wins away from tying the current 60-win record.
Salam and the rest of the Bison will return to action on Friday, April 7, in Stony Brook, N.Y., to battle the Seawolves in non-league action. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
