PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Freshman Ryan Robinson (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) joined the Bucknell all-time top-10 list in the men's high jump, highlighting a busy Friday for the Bison contingent at the famed Penn Relays at Franklin Field.
Robinson, competing in the Eastern high jump section, cleared 6 feet, 6 3/4 inches, a personal best outdoors and tied for the seventh-best performance in school history. Robinson, who tied for 15th place in his section, went as high as 6-7 during the indoor season and is also on the indoor all-time list.
In other men's field event action, senior Dan Frake (Northport, N.Y./Northport) placed 18th in the Eastern shot put at 48-0, while sophomore David Mante (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) cleared 15-1 in the Eastern pole vault to place ninth.
The Bison men entered three relays on Friday. In the 4x100-meter relay, the foursome of Matthew Johnson (Newburgh, N.Y./Marlboro Central), Kerry Boyle (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton), Matt Corbetta (Port Chester, N.Y./Port Chester) and Eric Guja (Massapequa, N.Y./St. Anthony's) finished eighth in their heat and 57th overall in a time of 43.50.
The distance medley relay team of Mark Caroleo (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon), Guja, James Redmond (Medford, N.J./Bishop Eustace Prep) and Derrin Pierret (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) finished in 10:07.35, good for 13th in their heat and 27th overall.
And in the Wetzler 4x400, a section consisting only of Pennsylvania schools, Corbetta, Matt Bonelli (Califon, N.J./Pingry School), Brian Mooney (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili) and Boyle took fifth place in 3:19.85.
The Bucknell women had two field event entries, both in the Eastern triple jump. Sophomore Nicole Ayala (Reading, Pa./Holy Name) finished 22nd with a leap of 36-8, while junior Ann Doty (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney Area) was an inch behind in 24th place.
In the women's shuttle hurdles relay, Melanie Buczko (Butler, Pa./Butler Area), Catherine Trentacoste (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City), Danielle Todman (Plainfield, N.J./Bishop Ahr) and Nina Reinhardt (Northport, N.Y./Northport) placed ninth in 59.65.
The women's 4x200 relay quartet of Megan Hathaway (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Niagara Wheatfield), Reinhardt, Lesley Emons (Woodbridge, Conn./Amity Regional) and Chessa Forer (New York, N.Y./Deerfield Academy) took seventh in their heat and 49th overall in 1:45.18.
On Saturday, the Bison will have athletes entered in two men's field events, the hammer throw and the javelin, at Penn Relays, and they will also have a team going to the Lehigh Games in Bethlehem, Pa.
