LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell freshman attack Sarah Collins (Goldens Bridge, N.Y./John Jay), who scored a career-high 10 points on four goals and six assists in the team's important 14-5 victory over American on Saturday, has been named the Patriot League Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks.
Against American, Collins either scored or assisted on each of Bucknell's first seven goals of the day, as it broke open a 4-4 tie by scoring nine straight goals. The win helped the Bison gain a tie for third place and secure a PL Tournament berth.
Collins' 10 points against AU were fourth-most in Bucknell history. She finished two shy of the BU single-game points record and one shy of the single-game assists mark. Melissa Montefusco (2002) and Sue Gray (1984) had 12-point games, while Pam Brooks (1984) holds the record with seven assists in a game. Collins' 10 points were the most by a Bucknell player since Meredith Wright had five goals and six assists for 11 points against Denver in 2004.
Earlier in the week, Collins had a pair of goals in a 17-3 rout of Saint Francis (Pa.).
The 12-point week gave Collins a team-high 41 points (28 goals, 13 assists) this season. That is the ninth-best total in the Patriot League.
Bucknell has won five straight games, the fourth-longest active streak in the nation. Now 7-9 on the season, the Bison will be seeded fourth at next weekend's Patriot League Tournament and play host and No. 1 seed Holy Cross on Saturday at noon.
