Bucknell Track and Field to Host Five-Way

The Bucknell track and field program is ready to host its last home meet of the outdoor season, the Bucknell Five Way, set for Saturday, April 22, at the Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium in Lewisburg, Pa. The men's and women's triple jump will be kicking off competition, with both the men's and women's 4x400 meter relays closing out the meet.
Field events are scheduled to start at 10 a.m., with the triple jumps, followed by the men's and women's hammer, shot put and javelin at 10:30 a.m., the men's and women's pole vault at 11 a.m., then concluding with both high jumps at noon.
Athletes to watch for the Bison should be junior Ann Doty (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney) in the triple jump, junior Melanie Buczko (Butler, Pa./Butler) and sophomore David Mante (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) in the pole vault, junior Marjorie Grap (Van Etten, N.Y./Spencer-Van Etten), sophomore Amanda Mockbee (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) and senior Dan Frake (Northport, N.Y./Northport) in the hammer throw, discus and shot put. Junior Tyler Hoffman (Lewisburg, Pa/Lewisburg) also specializes in the hammer, while sophomore Beverly Rogers (Finleyville, Pa./Ringgold) and junior Josh Kaehler (Hanover, Pa./South Western) specialize in the javelin.
On the track, the 3000-meter steeple chases will begin the running events, with the men's at noon, followed by the women's event. From there, many other track events will follow a rolling time schedule.
Juniors Lauren Bricker (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area), Christa Sawko (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) and Jenny Stevens (Laceyville, Pa./Wyalusing Valley) should compete in the mid to long-distance events for the women, while juniors Mark Caroleo (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) and Matt Forys (Howell, N.J./Howell), along with sophomore Wallace Campbell (Montgomery, Ala./Montgomery Acad.), in the men's categories.
In the hurdles, Buczko, junior Catherine Trentacoste (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) and freshman Kerry Boyle (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton) should make an impact for the Orange and Blue. Senior Matt Corbetta (Port Chester, N.Y./Port Chester), sophomore Matt Johnson (Newburgh, N.Y./Marlboro Central) and Boyle provide talent in the sprints for the men, while junior Chessa Forer (New York, N.Y./Deerfield Acad.) and freshman Megan Hathaway (North Tonawanda,N.Y./Niagra Wheatfield) provide the speed for the women.
The final event, the women's 4x400, is scheduled to begin at 4:20 p.m. Results should be posted on the web following the conclusion of the meet.
