LORETTO, Pa. -- Emily Burman (Kensington, Md./Stone Ridge) scored four goals and the Bucknell women's lacrosse team continued its late-season surge with a 17-3 runaway win at Saint Francis (Pa.) on Tuesday evening. The Bison have won four straight games by a combined margin of 58-17 and now stand at 6-9 on the season.
The red-hot foursome of Burman, Bonnie Buechel (South Orange, N.J./Columbia), Jackie Bodnar (Madison, N.J./Madison) and Sarah Collins (Goldens Bridge, N.Y./John Jay) combined for 12 goals, and all four have now topped the 20-goal plateau. Buechel and Bodnar scored three goals each, while Collins had two. Buechel also had an assist for a four-point game.
Casan Van Langen (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Torrey Pines) had a goal and an assist, while freshman Bridget LaCroix (Norwalk, Conn./Greens Farms Academy) tallied her first career goal. Another rookie, Nikki Chacosky (West Chester, Pa./Unionville) collected her first career point with an assist.
Much like in Saturday's win over Lehigh, the Bison controlled possession throughout. Bucknell won 17 of 22 draws and outshot the Red Flash (0-13) 35-15. Bison goalie Lizzy McDaniel (West Chester, Pa./Unionville) was called upon to make six saves, as Bucknell registered a season high for goals scored and a season low for goals allowed.
Bodnar scored the game's first goal on an 8-meter attempt just 2:35 into the contest, and that opened the floodgates. Bucknell tallied the first nine goals of the evening and led 12-1 at halftime.
It was 15-1 after Buechel's goal off Chacosky's assist. Rachel Farrow, Saint Francis' lone senior playing in her final home game, scored twice in a row to make it 15-3 before Burman and Van Langen finished the scoring.
Bucknell wraps up its 2006 regular season on Saturday with a very important Patriot League game against American at Graham Field at noon. The Bison are currently tied with Lafayette for the fourth and final Patriot League Tournament berth, but both the Bison and Leopards are also just a game behind third-place American.
