LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Following Bucknell's 13-4 Patriot League victory at Villanova over the weekend, two members of the Bison women's lacrosse team earned Patriot League honors on Monday. Senior defender Rachel Prowler (Philadelphia, Pa./William Penn Charter) was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week, while freshman attack Sarah Collins (Goldens Bridge, N.Y./John Jay) was named the PL Rookie of the Week.
Prowler helped spearhead a sterling defensive performance against the Wildcats on Saturday. Bucknell's defense limited Villanova to only 12 shots and four goals all day, both season bests. Individually, Prowler logged a game-high five caused turnovers and picked up two ground balls.
A two-time All-Patriot League selection, Prowler ranks second on the team in both ground balls (29) and caused turnovers (14).
Collins is one of several first-year players making a major impact this season. Last Tuesday in a loss to unbeaten St. Bonaventure, Collins had three goals and an assist. Then on Saturday against Villanova, she scored three more goals, including two early in the game that help stake the Bison to a commanding 5-0 lead.
For the season, Collins has 15 goals and five assists, and she ranks second on the team in both goals and points.
Now 3-9 overall and 1-3 in the Patriot League, the Bison host Wagner in a non-conference game on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Graham Field, then they entertain Lehigh in a critical Patriot League contest on Saturday at 1 p.m.
