WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Bucknell softball team wrapped up its weekend at the George Washington Colonial Classic Sunday morning with a 4-3 loss to Patriot League foe Colgate in a non-league game at Mount Vernon Field. After trailing 4-0 entering the bottom of the sixth inning, the Bison plated one run in the sixth and two in the seventh and had the winning runs on base when the final out was recorded.
Cassie Lloyd (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg), who had one of Bucknell's five hits, opened the seventh inning with a double. Meghan Feller (Willoughby Hills, Ohio/Notre Dame) followed with a walk as she pinch hit for Kristin Frick (West Chester, Pa./Bishop Shanahan). Ashley Beans (Hanover, Pa./Hanover), the eight-place hitter, represented the tying run and she singled, knocking in Monica Grinage (Braddock, Pa./Shady Side), who pinch ran for Lloyd, to narrow the deficit to 4-2. Michelle Danish (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth), also a pinch hitter, reached on a fielder's choice and moved Feller to third base. After a strikeout, Erin Curatola (River Edge, N.J./River Dell) stepped to the plate and hit a ball back to the pitcher, who committed an error, allowing Feller to score, but Ashley Carlson (Fairless Hills, Pa./Pennsbury) was caught off third base to end the game.
Bucknell's other run came in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Lauren Wible (Dover, Pa./Dover), who was 1-for-3 in the game. It was her 74th career RBI.
Colgate (2-1) jumped out in front with one run in the top of the second off Bison starter Tanya Roth (0-2) (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes). The Raiders added two in the fifth and one in the sixth off reliever Christie Wiest (Centre Hall, Pa./Penns Valley), who pitched four innings and gave up four hits, three runs, two earned runs and two walks. She struck out two Colgate hitters.
The Raiders managed just seven hits in the game, but five came from the top three hitters in the lineup - LaPorscha Albert, Kim Olmstead and Kortney Hannah. That trio was 5-for-13 with two runs scored and one RBI.
Beans led Bucknell (0-10) with two hits in three at bats.
Bucknell returns to action next Sunday, March 12, when it opens play at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimme, Fla. The Bison will take on George Washington and Rider in the first two of their 10 scheduled games on their spring break trip.
