WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Bucknell softball team (0-9) suffered two losses on Saturday afternoon at the George Washington Tournament at Mount Vernon Field in Washington, D.C. The Bison lost their first game to George Washington 8-0, and tried to split the day with a win over Drexel, but came up short and fell 4-1.
The Orange and Blue struggled both offensively with just three hits and defensively, with four errors committed in the George Washington match-up.
In Bucknell's offensive effort, senior Lauren Wible (Dover, Pa./Dover) tried to get the Bison rolling in the second inning, as she knocked in a single to right field for the first hit of the game. The next hit came in the third inning from a single up the middle off the bat of freshman Ashley Beans (Hanover, Pa./Hanover). Junior Meghan Feller (Willoughby Hills, Ohio/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) rounded-out the offense with a single to right field in the fourth inning.
Both Wible and Feller went 1-for-2 at the plate, while Beans turned in a 1-for-1 performance.
Wible recorded a team-high five put-outs in the game, while Beans compiled one putout and three assists.
In the Drexel outing, Bucknell tried to rally back from a 4-0 deficit late in the seventh inning, but fell three runs short of accomplishing that feat.
Freshman Cassie Lloyd (Mifflinburg, Pa/Mifflinburg Area) led off the inning with a double and advanced to third by a fielder's choice from junior Michelle Danish (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth). With the runner on third and one out, sophomore Heather Haskin (Noblesville, Ind./Thomas Scecina Memorial) hit into a fielder's choice, but was able to score the run.
The tournament will conclude on Sunday, with Bucknell scheduled to battle Colgate at 9 a.m. The Bison will end the weekend with a game against a yet-to-be-named opponent at 2 p.m.
