Bucknell Women's Golf Finishes in Tie for Third at The Shamrock

TEGA CAY, S.C. - Improving in each of the three days of competition at The Shamrock Invitational, the Bucknell women's golf team finished in a tied for third out of 13 teams at the annual event. The Bison, who tied with Longwood with a score of 971, were led by Amy Loughney (Macungie, Pa./Allentown Central), who shot a 76 Sunday, and finished second overall out of 72 golfers with a three-day score of 230.
As a team, Bucknell shot a 319 Sunday. That mark equals the second-best in program history for four golfers at an 18-hole course. The 319 was a record for the Bison at The Shamrock, bettering their 322 from Saturday's competition.
Loughney, who equaled her personal-best score with the 76 Sunday, was remarkably consistent throughout the weekend as she shot 77-77-76. She finished just two strokes behind Elon's Samantha Widmer, who fired a three-day total of 228, including a weekend-best 70 during the final round Sunday. Widmer was the lone golfer in the field to break the par of 72 on any of the three days.
Teri Schlang (Albany, N.Y./Stratton Mountain School) and Deirdre Moran (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Notre Dame) tied for 22nd in the field with scores of 244. Schlang shot a 77 Sunday, while Moran improved each day, going from 84 to 81 to 79.
Kathryn Batchelor (Trenton, N.J./Princeton Day School) was the final Bison to factor in Sunday's scoring as she shot an 87 to give her a three-day total of 253. She finished in a tie for 37th. Kristen Phalen (Buxbury, Mass./Tabor Academy) shot a 91 Sunday and finished 59th with a total score of 274.
Host Winthrop finished second in the field, just two strokes behind Elon, which fired a 934. Kenesaw State rounded out the top-five teams with a 973, two strokes behind Bucknell and Longwood.
Bucknell will play at the William & Mary Invitational next weekend in Williamsburg, Va.
