CHARLESTON, S.C. - Illinois State took the doubles point and rolled through all six singles matches to take the 7-0 win Thursday morning against Bucknell in a neutral sit match played at the Earle Tennis Center on The Citadel campus in Charleston.
Illinois State (6-6) started off strong with an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles as Luka Marinkovic and Daniel Tobar won over Bucknell freshmen Jonathan Brenner (Manhasset, N.Y./Chaminade) and Daniel Bednarek (Haworth, N.J./Bergen Catholic). The Redbirds sealed the doubles point with an 8-4 win at No.1 doubles as Alban Renard and Oscar Beich were too much for the Bison tandem of sophomore Ira Reibeisen (Armonk, N.Y./Rye Country Day-Upper School) and senior Asher Salam (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven).
Renard struck first in singles competition, recording the 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles over Matt Pikus. The Bison fell down 3-0 as freshman Benjamin Rosenstock (West Essex, N.J./West Essex) fell at No. 6 singles to Illinois State's Alfredo Lagarda, 6-2, 6-0. Illinois State clinched the match victory as Djordje Uskokovic topped Bucknell's Bednarek at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-3.
Bucknell turns around and will play The Citadel Thursday at 2 p.m.
