DAVIS, Calif. - The Bucknell women's lacrosse team finished the day with a disappointing 13-5 loss at the hands of host UC Davis on Wednesday at Aggie Field in Davis, California. Freshman Jackie Bodnar (Madison, N.J./Madison) played a solid game as she contributed two goals to the Orange and Blue's offensive effort.
The Bison held the Aggies to just three goals in the first half of the game, all scored by Katie McMahon, and closed out the half with a Bodnar tally, with just under seven minutes remaining to set the half-time score at 3-1.
Bucknell was unable to overpower Davis in the second half as the Aggies added 10 marks on the board, while the Bison contributed four.
Scoring six of the 10 for Davis was McMahon, setting a new school mark with her game-high nine goals.
For the Orange and Blue, freshman Bonnie Buechel (South Orange, N.J./Columbia) added the first tally of the second period just over a minute into the half off a pass from freshman Sarah Collins (Goldens Bridge, N.Y./John Jay). The next Bucknell threat was scored by senior Lauren Kremer (Chadds Ford, Pa./Unionville) at the 38:07 minute mark. Bodnar netted the next tally with just under 15 minutes left to play, while classmate Colleen Evans (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge) scored the final Bison goal (47:46).
Defensively for Bucknell, senior Lizzy McDaniel (West Chester, Pa./Unionville) collected 11 saves, nine in the first half, and six ground balls.
The Orange and Blue will return to action on Sunday, March 19, as it travels to Worcester, Mass., to battle Patriot League foe Holy Cross. Game time is scheduled for noon.
