REDLANDS, Calif. - Meagan Gins (Albuquerque, N.M./Valley) scored a team-high four goals, but the Bucknell women's water polo team fell to Redlands Tuesday night. The Bison, who defeated Macalester earlier in the day, fell to 12-5 this season.
Gins, who passed the 80-goal mark for her career, added one assist to her four goals, but just three other Bucknell players were able to net goals with Elizabeth Jensen (San Mateo, Calif./St. Ignatius Academy), Mallory Sullivan (Tulare, Calif./Tulare Western) and Aubrey Rowe (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) accounting for the rest of the scoring. Sullivan and Rowe each also added a pair of assists.
The telling statistic for Bucknell was the fact it converted just 3 of 8 six-on-five opportunities against the second ranked team in Division III. Also, after registering a season-high 20 steals against Macalester earlier in the day, Bucknell had just one steal against Redlands with Gins getting it.
After playing Redlands even in the first quarter, the Bison trailed 4-2 at halftime and could not overcome the deficit in the second half.
Mandy Bynum (San Jose, Calif./Leland) equaled her season high with 11 saves in net for Bucknell.
The Bison continue their trip to California Wednesday with a 6:30 p.m. Eastern game at Cal Baptist.
