RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Meagan Gins (Albuquerque, N.M./Valley) and Elizabeth Jensen (San Mateo, Calif./St. Ignatius Prep) each scored two goals as the Bucknell women's water polo team outscored Cal Baptist 4-1 after halftime on its way to a 6-4 victory.
The Bison, who are now 13-6 overall, improved to 2-1 on their spring break trip to California.
After falling behind 2-1 in the first quarter, and 3-2 at halftime, Bucknell's defense that produced 10 steals turned up the notch and held Cal Baptist to just one second-half goal. Jensen and Jennifer Swoyer (Erie, Pa./McDowell) each recorded two steals, while Mandy Bynum (San Jose, Calif./Leland) had a team-high three to go along with her seven saves and one assist.
Mallory Sullivan (Tulare, Calif./Tulare Western) and Aubrey Rowe (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) each added one goal in the winning effort. Despite leading the team in scoring with 43 goals entering the game, Rowe came off the bench.
Jensen and Sullivan added one assist apiece, while Laura Stalker (New Canaan, Conn./Choate Rosemary) led the squad with two helpers.
Bucknell will return to action at the Claremont Convergence this weekend. The Bison will play Occidental and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Saturday. Both are ranked among the top five Division III teams in the country.
