REDLANDS, Calif. - The Bucknell women's water polo team opened its week-long California trip by posting the first shutout in program history, defeating Macalester 10-0 Tuesday afternoon. The Bison used a season-high 20 steals, including a career-high six by Laura Stalker (New Canaan, Conn./Choate Rosemary), to record the shutout.
Despite using a starting lineup of Stalker, Susan Kingerski (Sugarland, Texas/Saint Agnes Academy), Jessica Trimis (La Crescenta, Calif./Crescenta Valley), Kat Eckert (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon), Sadie Abuhoff (Cranbury, N.J./The Lawrenceville School), Amanda Barto (Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor), and Rachel McGillis (Los Altos, Calif./Los Altos) that had combined for 17 starts this season and featured just two players who had started a contest before Tuesday, Bucknell jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first quarter and an 8-0 halftime lead.
In addition to her six steals Stalker scored two goals and dished out two assists. Kingerski and Barto each recorded four steals. Barto also contributed two goals and a pair of assists. Swoyer tied Stalker and Barto for the team lead in points with three goals and one assist. Eckert, Abuhoff and Trimis each scored one goal.
McGillis, who earned her first career start in goal, made a career-high nine saves.
The top four scorers on the Bison - Aubrey Rowe, Meagan Gins, Elizabeth Jensen and Amanda Nogic - did not play in the game.
Bucknell plays Redlands in its second game Tuesday at 10 p.m. Eastern. Redlands is the second-ranked team in Division III.
