LEWISBURG, Pa. - Junior Marjorie Grap (Van Etten, N.Y./Spencer-Van Etten), a member of Bucknell's women's track and field team, has been named the Patriot League's Female Field Athlete of the Week, for the week of Jan. 30-Feb. 5, the league office announced on Tuesday morning. So far this season, the Bison have taken each of the possible five Female Field Athlete of the Week honors, with Grap receiving four of them.
On Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Akron Open in Akron, Ohio, Grap tossed the 20-pound weight 64 feet, 9 1/4 inches, good enough for a second-place finish in the weight throw and a new school record. More impressively, not only did Grap surpass the NCAA Provisional Mark, but her latest heave placed her 16th in the nation among all Divison-I female competitors in the event.
Also at the Open, Grap finished 11th overall in the shot-put, with a throw of 43-3 3/4.
At the first meet of the season, the Bision Opener (Dec. 3, 2005), Grap qualified for the ECAC Championships. More recently, at the Bison Open (Jan. 28) Grap set Bucknell's Gerhard Fieldhouse record in the weight throw with a mark of 62-6 1/2.
The Orange and Blue will host its last home meet of the season, the Bucknell Winter Classic, on Feb. 11. Following the "Classic", the Bison will head to Annapolis, Md., to Navy, for the Patriot League Championships on Feb. 18-19.
