Four Bucknell Women's Hoops Players Honored with Patriot League Postseason Awards

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Four members of the Bucknell women's basketball team were honored Tuesday when the 2006 All-Patriot League Women's Basketball Team was announced by the league office. Sophomore forward Hope Foster (Washington, D.C./Dunbar) was a First Team All-Patriot League selection, while junior guard Lindsey Hollobaugh (Loganton, Pa./Central Mountain) was named to the second team. Also, Foster earned the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year, while freshmen Amanda Brown (Richardson, Texas/L.V. Berkner) and Lauren Schober (Chicago, Ill./Regina Dominican) made the All-Rookie Team.

The selection of Foster to the first team gave Bucknell a first-team choice in seven of the last eight years.

Foster, who was a member of the All-Rookie Team last year, is second on the team in scoring at 10.1 points per game and tops the squad in rebounding with 9.0 per contest. That figure ranks second in the league, behind fellow first-teamer Jenny Callan of Lehigh. Foster has scored in double figures in 12 of 27 games, including a career-high 24 points against High Point. She added a career-high 18 rebounds in that contest for her first of four double-doubles on the season.

In addition to her first-team citation, Foster earned the second-ever Defensive Player of the Year award behind her Bucknell-record 93 blocked shots as she unseated Colgate's senior guard Megan Ballard, who won the inaugural award last season. Foster, who owns the top two spots on Bucknell's single-season blocks list and is the career leader with 165 blocks, ranks sixth in Patriot League history in rejections. The 6-2 Foster, who stands sixth in the country with a 3.4 blocks per game average, has blocked at least one shot in 41 of her last 42 games. Twice this season she has tied the Bison single-game mark of seven blocks and has 19 games with at least four rejections in her career.

Lindsey Hollobaugh

Hollobaugh earned her second consecutive second-team nod despite missing four games earlier this season recovering from a knee injury. After averaging nearly 16.0 points per game her first two years, Hollobaugh has adjusted to a more balanced attack and ranks third on the team in scoring at 10.0 points per game. She also stands second on the team in rebounding at 5.3 per contest from her guard position.

A Preseason All-League choice and the 2004 PL Rookie of the Year, Hollobaugh eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for her career earlier this season. She is the 15th Bison to reach that figure and has since risen to 12th on the school's scoring list.

Amanda Brown

For the second consecutive year, Bucknell had two players earn spots on the All-Rookie Team in Brown and Schober. Brown moved into the starting lineup in the 12th game of the season and was the team's leading scorer for much of the conference season. Her scoring tailed off toward the end of the year, but she is still fourth on the team averaging 9.9 points per game. She also pulls down 3.6 rebounds per game from her point guard position despite standing just 5-6.

Brown reached 20 points a team-high three times this season, including a career-high 22 points against Buffalo in December.

Along with her scoring prowess, Brown finished second on the squad with 72 assists and fourth with 24 steals.

Schober took her place in the starting lineup in the season's 13th game, an 88-51 victory over Navy, and never left as she led the Bison to an 11-4 record while part of the starting unit. She is first on the team in scoring at 10.6 points per game and is trying to become the first Bison freshman since Molly Creamer in 1999-2000 to top the squad in scoring. Schober closed the season by reaching double figures in 12 of the final 16 games.

The Patriot League's top 3-point shooter, Schober has made 42.7 percent of her 3-point attempts. Her 32 made 3-point field goals are tied for the ninth-best figure in Bucknell history.

Lauren Schober

Despite playing just 25 minutes per game and measuring in at 6-0, Schober is third on the team in rebounding at 4.7 per game. She stands second on the squad with 36 steals.

Bucknell has now had an all-rookie selection for four straight years with Brown and Schober following current sophomores Kesha Champion (Chesapeake, Va.,/Indian River) and Foster, Hollobaugh and Lindsey Geosits. The Bison have now had 13 players named all-rookie, while 14 have earned second-team citations and 11 have been first-team selections.

Joining Foster on the first team were Cara Enright (Army), Megan Ballard (Colgate), Kaitlin Foley (Holy Cross) and Jenny Callan (Lehigh). Enright was also named Patriot League Player of the Year.

Alongside Hollobaugh on the second team were Tala Hadavi (American), Brittany Keil (Holy Cross), Adrienne Blount (Lehigh) and Lauren Skrel (Navy).

The all-rookie team included American's Sahar Nusseibeh, Army's Alex McGuire and Colgate's Gretchen Polinski in addition to Brown and Schober. McGuire was selected as Patriot League Rookie of the Year.

Army's first-year head coach Maggie Dixon was picked as the Patriot League Coach of the Year. All-league voting is conducted by the eight Patriot League women's basketball coaches.

Bucknell is the No. 3 seed at the Patriot League Tournament and will take on No. 6 Lehigh Thursday, March 2, at 5:30 p.m. in Worcester, Mass.
