Bucknell Track & Field Competes at NYU Fastrack Invitational

NEW YORK, N.Y - The Bucknell indoor track and field program took 10 athletes to compete at the NYU Fastrack Invitational, held at the New York City Armory, on Friday, Feb. 24. Sophomore David Mante (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) jumped a personal best in the pole vault and took a seventh place ranking in the Bison record books.
Mante recorded a leap of 15 feet, 3 inches and finished in second-place overall.
In other action, junior Melanie Buczko (Butler, Pa./Butler Area) won the women's pole vault with a mark of 13-1 1/2. Junior Angie Hall (Elkton, Md./Rising Sun) took sixth in the event with a jump of 10-10.
Placing first in the women's weight throw was junior Marjorie Grap (Van Etten/Spencer-Van Etten) with a heave of 61-8 1/4, while junior Tyler Hoffman (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) took fifth in the men's event and marked a toss of 59-6 3/4.
Junior Lauren Bricker (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) placed fifth in the 800-meter run and clocked in a time of 2 minutes, 14.52 seconds, while classmate Christa Sawko took eighth in the event (2:15.87).
In the long jump, junior Nina Reinhardt (Northport, N.Y./Northport) placed third with a leap of 18-5, while freshman Kati Dempsey (Saylorsburg, Pa./Pleasant Valley) placed 11th (16-8 3/4).
Senior Matt Corbetta (Port Chester, N.Y./Port Chester) clocked in a time of 51.22 and placed 26th overall in the men's 400.
March 4-5 marks the next bit of 2006 indoor action, as the athletes who qualified for the ECAC/IC4A Championships will travel to Boston, Mass., to battle some of the best runners, throwers and jumpers in the region.
