LEWISBURG, Pa. - For the second consecutive week a player from the Bucknell women's water polo team was named the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Division Player of the Week as Meagan Gins (Albuquerque, N.M./Valley) copped honors following her 10-goal, three-assist weekend at the Princeton Invitational, where the Bison posted a 3-1 record. Teammate Aubrey Rowe (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) earned the same honor last week.
The consistent Gins scored three goals and dished out one assist in each of the first three games of the weekend. She added one goal in the final game of the weekend, an 11-7 win over Marist, and moved into 10th place on the Bucknell career goals list with 67 despite just beginning her sophomore season.
Not just an offensive player, Gins recorded five steals over the weekend, including three against the Red Foxes. She also posted eight ejections drawn in the four games, including four during an overtime victory over Brown.
Gins is currently second on the team in goals (19) and points (26) as the Bison have sprinted out to a 6-1 record, the second-best start in program history. Bucknell's lone loss was to No. 17 Indiana to open play last weekend.
Bucknell has four games slated for this weekend, Feb. 24-26, as it hosts the Bucknell Invitational at Kinney Natatorium. The Bison take on George Washington Friday night at 8 p.m., marking the start of the three-day, 20-game invitational.
