Bucknell Women's Swimming and Diving Takes Over Team Lead on Day Two of Patriot League Championships

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Senior Lectie Altman (Syracuse, N.Y./William Nottingham) swam a personal-best in the 200 free to break her own school record as the Bucknell women's swimming and diving squad vaulted into first in team scoring on day two of the Patriot League Championships at Navy's Lejeune Hall. The Bison lead the pack with 490.5 points while Colgate sits in second with 482 points and Navy is third with 316.5.
Led by Altman, Bucknell collected 65 points in the 200 free to help the Orange and Blue pull into first in the team standings. Altman took fourth with her record-setting time of 1:52.74, junior Rebecca Scheffter (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) came in fifth with a personal-best time of 1:52.87 to move up to second in the Bucknell record books, classmate Carlyn Donley (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic) was seventh (1:56.36), sophomore Lauren Butrie (Orefield, Pa./Parland) placed eighth (1:56.56), while sophomore Katalin Lyons (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) won the "B" final with a time of 1:55.80, good for ninth on the Bison top-10 all-time list and ninth overall in the meet.
In the 100 back, Altman swam the event in 57.74 for a third-place finish and junior Katherine Munson (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) was sixth with a time of 59.70.
Altman also helped the 200 medley relay squad to a runner-up showing. The team of Altman, junior Nikki Woodward (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow), senior Mary Krakowski (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and Scheffter posted a time of 1:46.44, which ranks fourth all-time in program history.
Woodward took third in the 400 IM with a time of 4:29.27 to improve her personal-best mark which ranks third in the Bucknell record book, while Laura Goeller (Wilmington, Del./Tower Hill School) came in fifth in the event in 4:31.63.
Munson also turned in a third-place finish for the Bison, posting a time of 57.53 in the 100 fly final after advancing out of the preliminaries with the No. 4 time in program history, 57.20. Senior Lauren Reed (South Plainfield, N.J./Mount St. Mary Academy) and Krakowski qualified for the "A" final as well and finished sixth and seventh with times of 58.32 and 58.67, respectively.
Sophomore Emily Wichryk (Darlington, Pa./Blackhawk) and freshman Nikki Seaman (Cleveland, Ohio/The Hawken School) both set new Bucknell top-10 times in the 100 breast. Wichryk came in sixth in 1:06.99, the second-best time in school history, and Seaman was seventh with a time of 1:07.88, good for sixth all-time.
In the 800 free relay, the team of sophomore Brittany Neligan (Hempstead, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy), Lyons, Donley and Altman captured third with a time of 7:42.05, which ranks fifth in the Bison record books.
Bucknell will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday Feb. 25, on the third and final day of the 2005-06 Patriot League Championships with the trials beginning at 10:30 am and finals at 6 p.m.
